*Note: Due to a conflict with an air corridor's height limits, the spire has had to be deleted from the tower resulting in a height reduction.

I'm not sure if I buy this "not to be higher than Shanghai Tower" thing. It's been pretty clear for many years how tall this tower is supposed to be. If any higher-ups wanted to curb the height of Ping An IFC as not to steal the glory from Shanghai, they could have done so in the concept phase. Why wait until now?

Then again, that is also true for many other explanations. I guess the routines at the airport could have changed, or stricter laws could be put into place, which means the conditions have changed during this tower's construction to such a degree that the shortening of the tower would have had to happen now.

Its not just the strucutre even the vertical lines on the facade all converge to a point to a spire.

Infact i am not a big fan of spires and frankly this was the only tower which was designed for a spire with perfection. Now all the converging vertical threads on the facade diminish in what feels like a strange manner
^^I'm not a spire fan either, as Highcliff suggests a nice crown could be built, and in instances of "perfect spires" only 2 come to mind Jin Mao, and Chrysler:)
But my biggest concern is,, shouldn't everybody have been on the same page before actually starting this project? That's where I don't understand how this could happen.
The city is just realizing this was supposed to be 600+? Help me understand how this could happen. I'm not saying NY is better, but this would never happen in NY.
