Welcome to the CHENNAITHREAD

I started this thread on IT projects for Chennai with that imaginative heading, as I thought it was huge and deserved a thread on its own. Thanks to Shankar for original idea though. Lets try keep it all here ? If its a failure I will beg and crawl and ask Suncity to link it with the main Chennai projects thread :D

Chennai isone fo the leading IT destinations in India with ther industry picking up further after teh recent initiatives by thestate govt.

Over the past year Wipro Technologies, Infosys Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Satyam Computer Services have invested in major expansion plans at Chennai. They’ve committed themselves to creating more than 70,000 jobs by 2008 and have taken up hundreds of acres in two key software parks on the outskirts of Chennai.

They’re building what Infosys calls “the world’s biggest software development centre” on a 130-acre tract. Both Infosys and Wipro plan to increase headcount in Chennai by a factor of four in the next five years.

Infosys is developing around 130 acres in a modular fashion in a 1,700 acre IT industrial park called Mahindra City, 25 km south of Chennai airport. It aims at increasing headcount 10-fold to 30,000 in five years.

Wipro was allotted an additional 85 acres to expand its 15- acre campus in Sholinganallur in the IT corridor, a 25-kilometre stretch running from Tidel Park to Siruseri, home for a 1,000-acre industrial park being set up by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Sipcot).

TCS has already taken up 70 acres in Siruseri, with others such as Polaris, Patni Computer Systems and Cognizant Technology Solutions laying foundations for huge campuses.

As a result, Chennai is likely to overtake the National Capital Region (NCR) – including Delhi – to become the second largest job creator along with Mumbai with around 35,000 jobs this year, a survey by “The Times of India” suggests

Here are some of the present IT infrastructure what is commonly being called as the IT Highway in Chennai

Great collection of pics there Arun

I like the Ramaniyam Tower design. Somehow I am no great fan of all those 'crisscrosses' you find in most of the modern Indian buildings... I see it in Tidel Park, in Dowlath Tower, Time Sq etc. Anyway any new building will do for Chennai :D

Yes I too wish for a real tall tower in Chennai. Why not go for any office towers in Central Chennai. The problem is even with all those building Chennai is a bit too spread off so that it doesnt make much of a midrise dense area anywhere even along the IT Corridor. I wish some place like Parrys corner or Fort should be turned into a dense skyscraper zone

Intelpark, IT Highway

This is a Grade A++, Ground Plus four storey building, located on the IT highway-just a short drive from Tidel Park in Chennai

To suit the IT industry, Intelpark will have expansive floor plates of 50,000+ sq.ft. In fact , Intelpark is the only other building besides Tidel Park , to offer such large floor plates.

Also, Intelpark will be one of the those rare buildings surrounded by open space and extensive landscaping. Out of a permissible built up space of 4,00,000 sq.ft only 2,52,000 sq.ft will be built up.

The most luxurious thing about Intelpark however , will be the unprecedented amount of parking it provides for both cars and two wheelers

Take an easy drive on the new 6-lane IT highway out of Chennai and you will find yourself in the pleasant environs of Sholinganallur. Intelpark's location is conveniently accessible to the large software community residing nearby. Intelpark will be in the elite neighbourhood of Wipro Ltd , Satyam Computers Ltd , Infosys Ltd , Cognizant Technologies and TCS Ltd , all of which are whithin a kilometre of the building.
