Hilton chain arrives in force
Hilton Hotels have announced a €200 million investment programme in units in Portugal with three leisure resorts planned for the Algarve in partnership with Portugal’s Imocom group. There will be three Hilton Hotels on the Algarve by 2009. Apart from Cascatas Resort (€75 million) in Vilamoura due to open May 2008, Hilton will also open the Monte Santo Resort (a €35 million Praia do Carvoeiro tourism complex) by summer . The jewel in the crown will be the €95 million, 6-star Quinta do Lago resort Palácio Vale Verde hotel at Almansil. This will have 640 rooms and trade under the Conrad name – Hilton’s luxury brand. Alejandro Martins said Palácio Vale Verde was a highly sophisticated project with each room totally different for any other and each containing original works of art. Richard McIntosh director-general for Hilton Vacation Club division said Hilton was interested in acquiring hotels in Lisbon as soon as possible. "Lisbon is one of the few capitals where Hilton is not yet present and the capital is now much in demand for city breaks and business tourism,” he said.
