Transaero commits to four A380s

Transaero Airlines (UN), Russia’s second-largest carrier, is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Airbus Friday for A380s, ATW learned from a well-placed source. If the MOU is signed, it would make UN the first carrier in Russia and the CIS to order the A380. Deliveries are expected to start no earlier than 2015.
http://atwonline.com/aircraft-engines-components/news/transaero-reportedly-committing-a380s-1027

Continuing their cattle-transport tradition, they plan with 700 seats  Plus, reportedly, they're interested in the 747-8 as well.

Almost a Ryanair
Why? Totally not true! Seating capacity ranges from 525 passengers (in a comfortable three-class configuration) to more than 800 in a single-class layout with wider seats than other aircraft in its class. Transaero will have 3 classes configurations. If 525 it means that second floor is fully First and Business, but Transaero will have few Imperial First class seats + 15-20 Business, other is Economy, so 700 is good. Transaero will not have full First/Business class on the second floor as Singapore Airlines, so we cant compare.

Transaero Airlines commits to four A380s

First A380 customer in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe

28 OCTOBER 2011 PRESS RELEASE

Transaero Airlines, Russia’s second largest airline, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for four A380 aircraft. The agreement was signed by Olga Pleshakova, Transaero Airlines CEO and Christopher Buckley, Airbus’ Executive Vice President Europe, Asia and the Pacific.

Transaero will become the launch customer for the A380 in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe. The Russian carrier plans to start operations with the A380 on its long-range network of high density routes from Moscow. The aircraft will feature a three class cabin layout, seating about 700 passengers. Transaero will announce an engine selection for the new aircraft in the near future.
”Transaero is experienced in operating long-range wide-body aircraft, and is now ready to offer the A380. I am sure that the operation of this high capacity aircraft will stimulate the development of Russia’s aviation sector, in particular airports infrastructure while passengers will benefit from a completely new experience.” said Olga Pleshakova, Transaero Airlines CEO.

“We are very pleased to welcome Transaero as the launch customer for the A380 in Russia,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer - Customers. “We definitely see market potential for the A380 in Russia. Passenger traffic in this region is expected to increase at an average rate of 5.6 per cent per year over the next 20 years. We are convinced that the A380 is the best and most eco-efficient aircraft to meet those market requirements,” added John Leahy.
Transaero Airlines launched its services in November 1991, and currently serves more than 130 routes all over the world.
Since entering service in 2007 the eco-efficient A380 has exceeded all expectations, flying more people further at lower cost (some 16 million passengers up to date). The spacious, quiet cabin and the smooth ride have made the aircraft a favourite with passengers. This has resulted in higher than average load factors and increased profitability on A380 flights, providing airlines with a key competitive advantage wherever they operate the type.

Total orders for the aircraft stand at 236 from 18 customers worldwide and 59 aircraft have been delivered to seven customers.

world_rep, i am sure that at first they wont use all 7 weekly of course, having 7 is a good instrument, if they dont need they can sell it or change with other airlines for the city they need :) I think they will start from 3 weekly, same as Dublin. Every year Aeroflot opens more european destinations and i like it. For many years Aeroflot had bad image in the West and throughout the world and now they really try to change it, for 2012 i heard they want to start campaign to promote themselves outside Russia. Service is much better now, but it needs to be better yet i guess, fleet is really new and safety on a high level.

Would this mean they'll have to launch within a certain period, are they likely to launch Johannesburg within the next few months? Didn't Transaero operate flights to Johannesburg for a short while a couple of years ago, think it was triangular route with Mauritius, just every 10days? It's about time for a link between Russia and South Africa, especially since South Africa became the 5th member of the BRICS nations. Hopefully could be grown to become more frequent flights.

#106 ·
grjplanes, hard to say when they will introduce these flights. Yes some time ago they had flights to Johannesburg via Mauritius, this winter they start new 2 weekly direct flight to Mauritius, so i think soon we will see new flights to South Africa. BTW, today Transaero celebrates its 20th birthday :)

05.11.2011 Moscow Domodedovo Airport congratulates Transaero with the 20th anniversary

November 5, 2011, Transaero - one of the largest airlines in Russia and the world's leading air carrier in tourism routes - is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Half of its history the airline and Moscow Domodedovo Airport have been together: in 2001, Transaero chose Domodedovo Airport as its base airport. During all these years, the airline has been showing high dynamics of passenger traffic growth: from 2002 to 2010, it had been increasing by 30% a year. Currently, the airline tops the list of the largest carriers of Domodedovo Airport in terms of passenger flow, offering air travelers more than 100 flight destinations.

“To be on top and hold leadership positions is a challenge that only can be achieved by those who can not just quickly move in space, but do it ahead of time itself,” said Deputy Director on Commerce of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Aleksey Rayevsky, on the eve of the anniversary. “Transaero is the first private airline in Russia, which throughout its 20-year history proves that the success can be achieved only by those, who are constantly developing.”

The care of passengers, replenishment of the fleet with the most modern aircrafts, as well as increasing the number of routes, this all help Transaero to maintain the highest growth rates among the five largest airlines in Russia. Another distinctive feature of Transaero is that it is always the first one to generate new ideas, so the words "the first" and "the first time" have always been heard next to its name for all these years.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is happy to congratulate Transaero with the 20th anniversary of successful work in the airline industry and wishes it further development and promising projects, as well as new heights and horizons!

Transaero was founded in 1990. It began operating flights in November 1991. It is the second largest airline in Russia. It is ranked among the world's leading carriers on tourism and recreation routes. In the first half of 2011 and in July 2011, Transaero showed the highest growth rate among the five passenger airlines of the Russian Federation. The company is the only airline in Russia, the CIS countries and Eastern Europe, which operates Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 passenger liners. The route network of Transaero covers more than 130 destinations in Russia and foreign countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport in Russia. Over 10 years, passenger traffic has increased almost 10-fold, from 2.8 million passengers in 2000 to 22.3 million passengers in 2010. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been chosen for the flight to Moscow by members of the world's leading aviation alliances: Star Alliance, Oneworld. Since 2010, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been on the top of the list of the best airports in the Eastern Europe for the quality of its service, according to the annual rating by independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).

I was just curious because SU bumped up some cities not long ago. Btw Bucharest has two flights to Moscow, and they handle around 5M/year. BEG is just at 3M mark. Keep in mind that Both SU and JU codeshare from to BEG. I think the loads are around 90% on both flights. BEG needs to be aorund 5Mil to justify 2nd daily by SU/JU. That's how I see it.

Transaero buys 4 Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental

Tuesday, 08 November 2011 12:44 |

Transaero, one of Russia's largest airlines, has signed a deal with U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing to buy four Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental airliners for $1.3 billion at catalog prices, Transaero General Director Olga Pleshakova announced Tuesday.

The catalog price for each Boeing 747-8I, which will be delivered in a high seat configuration, is $330 million. Whether Transaero has paid this amount remains to be seen as often discounts are awarded for various reasons such as launch customer in a certain region and loyalty.

The deal would make Transaero the first airline in Russia, the CIS and East European countries to operate the long-haul wide-body Boeing-747-8I.

In late October, Transaero signed a $1.5 billion deal with the European Airbus consortium to buy four A380 aircraft. Deliveries will start from the fourth quarter of 2015.

S7 Airlines will launch Moscow-Valencia flights

S7 Airlines has applied at the Russian ministry of Transport for the permission to start flights between Moscow and Valencia (Spain). S7 had particular plans to start regular operations on this route, however Valencia was not in the list of destinations in Spain from where flights are allowed to from Russia.

According to a letter of Raúl Medina Caballero, the deputy director of air transport from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Spain, Valencia has now been included from the end of October in the list of points of destination of the Russian designated airlines and S7 is granted the permission to open flights between Moscow and Valencia.

In its request S7, as well known as Sibir, motivated that the flight will allow Russian citizens to visit Spain for the purpose of tourism and leisure, and at the same time it will give an additional profit for the tourist business in Spain.

Together with Valencia the following cities are in this particular list: Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, Gerona, Reus, Tenerife, Vitoria and Palma de Mallorca. Other cities are subject to an agreement between the Aviation Authorities of both Spain and Russia.
