Smart Village Building great monuments in Egypt is not a thing of the past. An extraordinary example of Egypt’s high tech infrastructure, economic incentive packages and commitment to the future is the 450 - acres Smart Village project that provides a high tech environment for IT and Telecom companies.

Upon completion of all the phases there will be 67 office plots, accommodating approximately 30,000 employees.

The Village is comprised of 10% buildings and 90% green area, lakes and water streams.

Smart Village incorporates all the amenities needed by its prospective staff and visitors.

Smart Village's location is geographically central to all major destinations within Greater Cairo located just 20 minutes away from downtown Cairo, 10km from the pyramids. It is also easily accessible from Cairo International Airport.

Smart Village gives the opportunity for any firm operating in the IT sector to rent, lease or buy office space. Firms can also buy land and build their own offices abiding by the same architectual standards of the Village.

This isn't much of a "smart village", unless your idea of a smart village is an ornate version of a Southern California office park. These buildings are far removed from Cairo and appear to be accessible only by car. While the city center decays, the city government is promoting growth on the periphery inaccessible and unconnected to the city itself. This suburbanization is harming Cairo's urban fabric, and is helping fuel an indifference among the rich towards the plight of the masses by removing contact between the two groups. In Los Angeles, this is a shame- but in Cairo, where so many millions live in dire poverty and are unable to meet their own basic needs, this indifference is deadly.

Too often, urban planners fail to take into account the political and social ramifications of their projects, and we see in Cairo's interest in this "smart village" concept this failure to plan for a sustainable future.

This is not a smart village at all. In fact, i would go as far as calling it a stupid village! Please give us some more skyscraper office buildings in downtown Cairo - not seas of low-rises in the burbs:eek:hno. It seems the only skyscrapers getting built here these days are hotels.

This isn't the only project of it's kind either.

^^ No info! Do you know exactly where the site is?

Damac has over $10 billion USD value of current projects in Egypt right now. One alone near Hurghada is worth over 5 billion.
They don't have any info about the skyscraper of their site, nor any regarding Egypt all together. If you come across anything please post it in the North Africa Development thread ;)
