I think we should consider Thanjavur, Karur also in this topic.WillyWick said:Atleast in this thread please stick to Trichy only pls do not include tuticorin, tirunelveli etc.
Thanks!
Same as posted in Madurai region.Madurai said:I think we should consider Thanjavur, Karur also in this topic.
Sorry I had to write this is in public instead of a private message.WillyWick said:When we are starting threads for specific cities it will be good to focus on that particular city only. Of course sattellite towns or smaller towns located near that city will be a part of the thread. This will make the quality of the thread much better by bringing out more city specific infrastructure issues and projects. For development in all other towns and small cities we have TN economy and infrastructure thread.
@Maduraiselvam-Its important to stick to projects and not make this into a news thread or a human resource thread. There is a thread on education - under infrastructure and economy for such post on universities and any genral discussion in chaibar. I am just saying this because having posts organized brings out the best in the city.
My dear, before making any comments read the Coimbatore project thread completely.Arul Murugan said:For Madurai Selvam

In some cases like developing cities like Madurai, Coimbatore and Trichy there arent as much projects that Metros are getting.____________________
You can include Madurai and Trichy in that category, but in Coimbatore topic, discussion is going only on Coimbatore and not on Pollachi, Mettupalaiyam, Ooty etc etc.,
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced work on four-laning of 204 km Tindivanam-Tiruchi stretch of the National Highway 45 at a cost of Rs. 1,200 under BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) scheme.
Activities such as land-acquisition, cutting of trees and shifting of service and other utility lines are under way.
The work is being undertaken under three packages:
Tindivanam-Ulundurpet (70.2 km), Ulundurpet-Padalur (92.7 km), and Padalur-Tiruchi (40 km). It will commence shortly.
The total land width of the stretch after acquisition will be 60 metres.
The current land width is 45 metres. The work will take a maximum of three years for completion, according to informed sources.
While the existing two-lane highway will be strengthened, another two-lane will be laid anew.
The first two packages are likely to involve an expenditure of Rs. 450 crore each, and the third entails a cost of Rs. 300 crore.
The third package encompasses construction of two new bridges, across the Cauvery and the Coleroon respectively.
Meanwhile, the four-laning work along the Tiruchi-Madurai stretch of National Highway 45-B is progressing as per the plan of NHAI.
The entire four-lane for a length of 124.7 km is being laid along a new alignment with geographical corrections in two packages:
Tiruchi - Thuvarankurichi (60.9 km), and Thuvarankurichi-Madurai (63.8 km).
The work, warranting duration of 30 months, started during February 2006, and is slated for completion by August 2008.
Four-laning of the 55 km Tiruchi-Thanjavur stretch of National Highway 67 is expected to commence shortly.
The survey has been completed, sources said, confirming that the work on laying a new by-pass road between Thuvakkudi and Jeeyapuram along Mathur, Panjapur, and Ramji Nagar is also on the anvil.
While the four-lane roads will facilitate horizontal growth of the city, the by-pass road is basically meant for movement of trucks and goods carriers, in order to ease traffic congestion in the city, sources added.
I think when traveling from Madurai to Trichy at some smaller towns like Melur, Viralimalai, Manaparai, etc. the roads are very scary. The traffic need to planned by bypassing the towns, instead of going into narrow roads inside the town.Madurai said:Nice to see that Trichy-Madurai four laning is progressing well. This will be a big relief for the drivers in this curvy road.

I hope the NH being layed is bypassing these places.
