#Approved: 31 Adelaide Street- 16st/office

New proposal for 31 Adelaide street - 16 level tower reach, consisting of a 4 level podium (ground retail and carpark) and 12 level tower above that. It reaches 70m AHD, but the actual height of the tower doesn' seem to be listed as there is no ground level figure. Level 1 of the podium is at 15m AHD, so I've guessed that the ground would be about 3m below that making the tower 58m RL.

Although the tower is certainly not large, it has the maximum allowable sq m based on the sites size. The design might be alright, but there really isn't very much in the submission - they'll certainly have to submitt a lot more information before the project can be approved.

The developer is Calile Malouf Investments, who were responsible for the James Street precinct

This is exactly the sort of development that should have retail flowing through to Burnett Lane. I reckon that laneway would be great if it was developed in a similar way to Melbourne laneways and developments like this are a great way to do that. ( IMHO )

It's actually a Taiwanese restaurant, I go for lunch there once a week. They do the best pearl milk teas in town.. and make sure you try the Kung-Pow chicken, hottest dish I've ever eaten!

This development (assuming its approved) is going to add to the incredible denisity that's occuring around the George/ Adelaide st area. Given that 3 of the 4 major commercial develoments in the CBD (including those on George st) are pre-committed, this one is definently needed.

I was walking past that lane on Wednesday night thinking the exact same thing. I notice as well that the Mall over the bus tunnel has been partially opened up, looks a lot better and I'm sure is a relief to local businesses (like Showgirls!).

Is this the site, it won't do much for the views from Lennons and whatever MLC's little brother is called. But I'm glad to be getting some more inner, inner city density and getting rid of the appalingly low rise present buildings.

The council has approved this development (as per friday's Prime Site)

What a load of bullshit... low rise buildings like that have as much a place in the city than any cheaply clad shit skyscraper does. That three pitched roof building is over 100 years old and most of the crap thats going up now will not last to 30 without undergoing a transformative refurbishment. A city is nothing to do with skyscrapers. Maybe your bland and sterile notion of what a city should be would be better applied in some eastern eauropean commie block town.

Im fine with them just keeping the facade of most of them. As most of them are fairly small scale buildings.

Obviously buildings like the Casino and NAB building shouldnt be knocked down at all becuase they are entire large sandston buildings.

But the building in questions only notable historically valuable part IS the facade... so..

Of course don't touch truly historic buildings, but lets be honest, the JB hifi building and whatever is next door to it is not worthy of being in the modern city, especially as prominent a location as what it is. I'm only sorry it wasn't replaced in the 1930's into one of Brisbane's grander 6-9 level buildings.

Sheesh, you would think I had suggested knocking down the treasury or something.
