Vivekananda Rock Memorial

This beautiful memorial dedicated to the Indian philosopher, Swami Vivekananda is located on the southernmost tip of mainland India off the coast of Kanyakumari. This memorial is on two rocky islands projecting from the sea about 400 m offshore. The Indian philosopher Swami Vivekananda came here in 1892. On this rock stands the "Vivekananda Rock Memorial" built in 1970 with a blend of all the architechtural styles of India. The 133 feet high statue of Thiruvalluvar in the mid-sea at Kanyakumari is beside the memorial.

Built in 1970, this memorial is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, the greatest social reformer and saint that India has produced. Swami Vivekananda had meditated on the rock where the memorial stands today at the end of 1892 before his departure for Chicago to participate in the World Religious Conference in 1893. A meditation hall is also attached with the memorial.

The statue of Thiruvalluvar is near to the Vivekanandha rock, it was inaugurated by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Thiruvalluvar is one of the greatest poet in the world. In his book called 'Thirukkural' he describes all divisions like management, truth, virtue, honesty, culture, relationship, friendship, love, kindness, etc. It consists of 1330 kurals (poems)
