Angelino Heights!.......... L.A's Victorian Heritage and More!

These pics are part of the L.A. tour we took last weekend
I was glad I finally had the chance to go there, I first knew about the place in one of Hewel Howser's KCET shows and I was not dissappointed
I hope you enjoyed this mini tour through Angelino Heights

He's a white guy haha... and no, celebrities don't live in those.

( you're white right, Dao? )

I love them but I wouldn't want to live in them ( haunted house fear issue )

What kind of ghosts do you get in a Victorian in LA? Are they like surfers and eat sushi or more like out of Charles Dickens and drag chains?

And remember, people can be Hispanic/Latino and Asian at the same time (assuming you buy the government criteria to begin with). I don't know if ghosts can be Latino and Asian at the same time

Well, we Latinos...... ( I prefer Hispanic, from the word Hispaña, from where the word "España" (Spain) comes from, not meaning the country but what the Romans called the Iberian peninsula in Latin. I guess both are correct).

...we Hispanics are not a race like Whites or Blacks, we are a mixture as you all know, so we go under the "White" category, with "Latin" being our ethnicity because of our language.

I always argue that in that case, Italians, Portuguese and the French are "Latinos" too (and Romanians) because all of our languages are "Romance Languages".

So if you're mixed why choose "white"?

The sooner that the Central and South Americas rids itself of its colonial mindset and end this "I wish I were white" disillusionment the sooner it will figure out a way to free itself from its own limitations.

Co-sign. I don't want to derail the thread, but what you said rings true when you see Sammy Sosa doing stuff like this:

Every race has its own beauty. Who can say which one of Angelina Jolie, Yang Yi Yi is more beautiful than the other

those few streets are beautiful, however, the surrounding area could use a nice scrub. Sunset and the surrounding main streets are down right depressing.

heyyyy...thanks for these pictures, I really had no idea that there were any Victorian style buildings in LA at all! but see there, I was wrong. ...

I wonder, is the one in Pink, not by any chance the same mansion used or pictures in the famous TV series called " Charmed" ? .. looks like it though.

I think that's right. Charmed had a couple of long opening shots of SF and then pretty much all the rest of the Victorians seen in the show were in LA.

Of course, we shouldn't notice color, accent or a number of other things at all, but that's another story.

I prefer Hispanic as well but Latino is supposed to be more hip. In any event, it's all kind of ridiculous because I'm fair skinned, with no accent but count as Hispanic due to surname and place of birth (the rule changed over the years).

Charlotte: you are getting very into the Victorians. Are you going to become one of those creepy ladies looking out from behind close curtains on an upper floor?

don't think so.

Victorian style mansions are very interesting knowing that there is always a place or something one discovers each day or every time you look at them.

I myself adore those Victorian houses with a few towers and the lovely colors. However though, I should say that being in England I haven't seen that much of these houses around and I think it is a sort of American style Vicotorian architecture that is so interesting.

Anyways ... no matter where in Los Angeles you look at, ok, I mean at residential area's or suburbs, there are so many styles and colors to discover, that those like me never get bored. That is why I love LA.

One of the neighbourhoods I like a lot and is less famous and I wonder why not, is Los Feliz. there are really some beautiful villa's and houses there too.

I also find Victorian Homes fascinating, but I don't think I'd live in one or own one.

Los Feliz' main problem is that it is too far east. Over the last 70 years, the center of LA's wealth moved west and old wealthy neighborhoods like Los Feliz, Hancock Park and the Hollywood Hills in general lost ground to Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Brentwood and all the way out to the coast. Similarly, the wealthiest parts of the San Gabriel Valley (Pasadena, San Marino) have never been quite as pricey as the Westside.

But now, the areas around DT are making quite an economic comeback.
