Sonali Aansh(Jute) Rebounding
From:
http://www.theindependent-bd.com/details.php?nid=154533 Raw jute ready for shipments gets export ban exemption December 21, 2009 Raw jute ready for shipments got exemption from the export ban that came into effect last week. The government last week imposed an indefinite ban on exporting raw jute to help meet the local demand. Shipments of raw jute at Chittagong port remained suspended following the decision, but an inter-ministry meeting decided Sunday to allow export of raw jute awaiting shipments. Minister for Textile and Jute Abdul Latif Siddiqui chaired the meeting, attended by the representatives from the ministries of finance, foreign affairs and commerce. The ministry of textile and jute at another meeting on Sunday also took some major decisions to revive the glory of the country's golden fibre-jute. The decisions include providing Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) with the state guarantee for bank loan and paying the interest on credit to BJMC by this month. The meeting also advised the commercial banks to provide loans to the private sector for producing jute and jute goods. High government officials and representatives from different organisations of the jute industry were present at the meeting. |

http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=119216 December 25, 2009 Jute looks to win back shine Refayet Ullah Mirdha The higher demand for biodegradable jute goods points to a comeback of the golden days of the golden fibre in Bangladesh as people across the globe now opt for an eco-friendly lifestyle, with natural fibres gradually replacing synthetics. The latest Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data suggests this at a time when the world is observing 2009 as the International Year of Natural Fibres. Bangladesh exported jute goods worth $85.62 million in the July-September period beating the target set at $69.55 million for the three months, according to EPB. However raw jute missed the target at $38.27 million, fetching $36.01 million. President Md Zillur Rahman yesterday inaugurated a four-day exhibition of products made from natural fibres, mainly jute and silk, at Osmani Memorial Hall in Dhaka to express solidarity to the rest of the world. Entrepreneurs, especially small and medium enterprises, are showcasing products at over 15 stalls on the hall premises. Khandakar Tariqul Emran, managing director of Artistic International, an export-oriented jute goods maker, said the demand for such products increased a lot both in the local and international markets. “I started business one and a half years ago with Tk 1.5 lakh, and now my company’s working capital is Tk 10 lakh,” Emran said. He said the government support for the small entrepreneurs can boost the sector, as orders from international buyers indicate a big demand for jute goods. Currently Bangladesh exports over thousand types of jute goods as the local manufacturers could develop diversified products for different uses, he said. The main export items are different types of bags, showpieces, sandals, wall-mats, handmade carpets, handicrafts, doormats, saris, jute-made fabrics, toys and essential things of kitchen. “Easy loan facility and easy access to international fairs should be ensured for the development of the jute sector as a lot of small entrepreneurs are coming with investment to grab a global market pie,” Emran said. Another participant at the exhibition, Badrul Alam, proprietor of Shohag Jute Industries and Shohag Jute and Handicrafts, said manufacturers are investing in value-added jute goods sector as it gives quick profits. At present Alam is exporting his products mainly to US, Canada, Spain, Italy and Germany. “Now I make 522 types of products in my four units and my current working capital is Tk 20 lakh,” he said. Alam said the sector is growing not only on the back of the higher demand in the international market, but also on the domestic demand. The demand began to peak up when corporate houses started using jute goods in a large quantity, Alam said, adding that he supplies jute goods to a good few corporate houses in Dhaka. “The demand will increase further if the government makes the use of jute goods mandatory for every government offices, seminars and conferences,” he said. He said some non-government offices always try to promote the jute sector, but practically they do not use the jute goods. The use of jute goods in the NGOs can also help increase the demand of the products, he added. “We should have a ‘bank of raw materials of jute goods’ from where we can purchase any quality of such products anytime,” Alam said. Demand for jute bags rises globally
From:
http://nation.ittefaq.com/issues/200...7/news0678.htm December 27, 2009 Demand for jute bags rises globally Huge export orders, enquiries from abroad: Demand for jute bags rises globally Syful Islam Prospect of Bangladeshi jute goods, especially jute bag export, seems to be bright as some of the countries including Australia are showing keen interest following their ban on use of polythene bags in the local markets. Many of the importers of those countries have contacted to the respective embassies and high commissions of Bangladesh expressing their interest to import jute bags. A recent communiqué from the Bangladesh High Commission in Australia revealed that following the ban on use of polythene bags in the biggest island of the world, a good number of its businessman have expressed their interest to import jute goods from Bangladesh. “I am in doubt whether we will be able to supply jute bags according to their demand as the high commission is receiving huge enquiries regarding jute bag suppliers,” read the communique. Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) statistics shows that jute goods worth US$30.20 lakh exported to Australia in fiscal year 2008-09 while the total export to the country was US$901.39 lakh. The country’s overall export of jute goods in fiscal year 2008-09 was US$269.25 million. Talking to The New Nation yesterday the president of Bangladesh Jute Goods Association Kazi Syedul Alam Babul said demand for jute goods, especially jute bags, is in high during the last of couple of years. “We are receiving huge orders of both traditional and non-traditional jute goods. The mills are in full with jobs. In some cases we are refusing orders due to lack of capacity,” he said. Babul said they are also getting good prices of jute goods and their sector in recent days became viable after long period. Prospect of jute bags and also non traditional jute goods are very high, he observed. Describing the reason of inability to supply the demands from abroad he said, the sector turned into sick one and most of the units became losing concern during the last couple of years facing various problems. Recently the factories are now facing shortage of labourers as they feel less interested to work in this sector experiencing low wages and dues. “In some cases some factories face 30 per cent worker shortage thus unable to utilise its total production capacity,” added Babul. |

Well let's hope this time no one in our country gives away $4 billion dollars ($200+ billion in modern time due to inflation) to the Pakistani gov't so they can build the most powerful army in the Muslim world without benefiting the Bengalis. The Bengali East Pakistan's golden fiber (jute) is what made Pakistan big and economically efficient. History will repeat itself and Bengal will rise again insh'Allah but let's hope real Bengali patriots come to power after the fall of the Begums.

East Pak had more money than West Pak...but East pak was exploited and all the money went to Pakistan...why do you think Karachi and Islamabad looks beautiful...Karachi at one time was less rich than Dhaka, until the Mohajirs made it rich through their businesses...and the elites of West Pak...why do you think our forefathers broke away from Pakistan...exploitation was one of the reasons
that's why they said jute was the golen fiber of Bengal...

Adamji Jute Mills to reopen soon
The government will reopen the giant Adamji Jute Mills soon installing 500 looms initially at a cost of Taka 306 crore.
"At the first phase, we will install 500 looms at No. 2 Shed on 11 acres at the mills and later another 500 looms will be installed which will create 5,720 jobs," Jute and Textile Minister Abdul Latif Siddique told BSS on Monday. Mentioning that the four-party alliance government had shut down Adamji Jute Mills, leaving 27,000 people jobless, the minister said the present government has taken initiatives to reopen five jute mills, including Adamji, considering increasing demand for jute and jute goods both at local and international markets. The fund for reopening the mills will be disbursed from block allocation of the government. After reopening of the jute mills, a huge number of jobs will be created in line with the present government's election pledge, the minister said. Thanking Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman for his role in reopening the mills, Latif said the shutdown mills had debts amounting to Taka 2,800 crore to banks that are now being reducing through rescheduling phase by phase. Bangladesh Bank has already taken measures to repay the banks' debts of Taka 700 crore through 30 installments in bank- blocked system and provide bank guarantees for the mills under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC). Jute Secretary Ashraful Moqbul said the 500 looms would be set up at Adamji Jute Mills with modern machinery and the ministry has already contacted with jute machinery manufacturers of India and China in this regard. BJMC Project Director Engineer (production) Tariqul Islam said BJMC had submitted three proposals to the ministry for reopening Adamji Jute Mills with modern equipment and the ministry is going to implement one proposal -`Export Yarn Jute Diversity'. BJMC estimated that Taka 608 crore would be needed to install the total proposed 1000 looms at Adamji Mills, he said. --BSS, Dhaka http://www.bangladeshinfo.com/busine..._top.php?nid=1 |

Seriously we need to come out of this blame game and focus on present. We have been independent for 40 years now and pointing fingers at Pakistanis, British,Moghuls and others for our current state is not prudent..
The only thing I am concerned about in regards to Pakistan is bringing the war criminals to justice. The relatives and friends of the victims deserve that and our government should take help from International Tribunal to close this issue. Jute sector has a lot of potential and more industries that manufacture jute products needs to be created. We can generate many more jobs and bring more revenue this way compared to exporting raw jute. |

Farmers all smiles in SW dists as jute regains glory
Price more than triples in last three years Small farmers selling jute at a market in Khoksha upazila of Kushtia district as the region sees jute cultivation on larger areas and higher yield due to increase in prices. Photo: STAR Amanur Aman, KushtiaJute farmers in 10 south-western districts are cultivating the cash crop in larger areas of land as it is earning them good profit for the last three years. Growers had to spend about Tk 12,000 for jute cultivation on a bigha of land that produced 10 to 14 maunds this season and the product, already arriving different markets in the region, is selling at Tk 1,800 to Tk 2,000 per maund, farmers said. “I have cultivated jute on three bighas of land and made better profit compared to other crops this year,” said Abdul Mannan, a farmer of Khoksa upazila in Kushtia district. Only a couple of years ago, jute sold for Tk 300 to 500 per maund, causing farmers to incur losses. Farmers have cultivated jute on 2,02,880 hectares of land against the AED target of 1,54,900 hectares in 10 districts in the region this year, said sources at Agricultural Extension Department (AED) offices in the division. Last year, farmers cultivated jute on 1,15,938 hectares land against the AED target of 1,24,900 hectares in the region. Higher average yield of the crop and good market price in the region during the last two to three years helped the farmers get benefited, said AED officials, farmers and market analysts. This year jute was cultivated on 37,000 hectares of land in Kushtia district while Magura, Jhenidah, Chuadanga, Jessore, Meherpur, Narail, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat saw jute cultivation on 34120 hectares, 24598 hectares, 24,600 hectares, 24140 hectares, 23950 hectares, 20173 hectares, 9930 hectares, 3081 hectares and 1288 hectares of land. Farmers prefer tosha (chorchorous olitorius) that was cultivated on some two lakh hectares of land, while a few other varieties, including deshi (chorchorous), on the rest of the land. However, the jute farmers faced some common problems including seed crisis that hampered sowing seeds in time during the sowing season. According to officials at Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and AED, 1704,280 kg of jute seeds were needed for Khulna division this season but the government supplied only 62,478 kg this season. This forced the farmers to collect seeds from market at higher prices while many farmers were cheated as they bought low quality Indian seeds, farmers said. Farmers have urged the government to check the flow of low quality seeds and ensure good varieties of jute seeds during the sowing season. http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=144469 |

Keep the discussion focussed to your own country. Don't blame Pakistan everywhere, you just blame for the sake of blame, dont have any points, Our military poower is still one of the stronbgest in the world although we dont have Jute today. You also blame Pakistan for Cyclone in 1970 Bhola Cyclone deaths however cyclones still hit your country frequently and lac of people killed but no one is making noises now??? for example in 1991 a cyclone hit your country and killed approximate 1.5 lac people. There are many other cyclones that hit bangladesh and have caused vast killings and damages now where is Bangladesh governement why don't it failed to protect its own citizens from cyclones even after 40 years of its foundation???????
Its my request to all brothers from bangladesh that please refrain from blaming Pakistan just for the sake of blame and when you have no strong arguments Last edited by glitteringstar; March 30th, 2011 at 11:11 AM. |

King nothing, don't take sides let them talk. I'm enjoy this.
. As Bangladeshis, Islamically we are similar with Pakistan but culturally we are similar to India; let's try to stay neutral between India and Pakistan. Bangladesh is pushed to the side while most things regarding Desi matters and South Asia revolves around India and Pakistan and the war in Kashmir. Look how big this cricket match is between the two countries. Look at most desi restaurants in USA, most of them say Indo-Pak restaurant so where is Bangladesh. We are a separate entity with a lot of differences and I believe we should stay neutral between India and Pakistan neighbors.

I agree we have Hindus, Christians, and Bhuddist which I'm proud of I love diversity, but majority of Bangladeshis are Muslim and that's why Bangladesh is considered a secular Muslim state.
