Reconstructing Baghdad tower for communication in al-Ma’moon

The Transport and Communications Department in the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation, started reconstructing and rehabilitating Baghdad communications tower in al-Ma’moon.
The General Director of the Transport and Communications Department, Imad Hamza told a news briefing, that the department had signed a contract with a Turkish company to reconstruct the tower, saying that the contract provided (6) months the duration for implementing the project and cost about five billion dinars.

It's looks good.
So basically they are rehabilitating the tower(same old design) and reconstructing al-Ma’moon communication center (totally different design)?

yes, they got rid of the old communication centre near the baghdad tower and are building another one...it'll be integrated with the tower somehow
the actual baghdad tower is just getting refurbished...new window panels etc

i think all the cranes and equipment were sold by the iraqi government...they have no intention to finish the project which i think is a waste
i could be wrong though...

I remember reading an article (like 2 years ago) that the goverment was planing to let companies bid for the project. but it never happened

here is a recent article I found on aljazeera about the project (nothing worth mentioning though)

I think this was taken a long time ago (possibly 2004). the building next to it has since been demolished. Also the cranes from the mosque in the background have been removed.

I tried to ask my relatives in Baghdad (who live very close to this tower) to help take some photos. I haven't heard back from them yet. I hope I do get some updates

The tower has been repainted, new glass and the new multi-storey car park finished next to it. all the above pictures are over 2 years old. Its been open for a while now. Cannot take any pictures in baghdad due to army+police being everywhere and very paranoid.
