Kinshasa's Mass transit/Public transporation News and Discussion!!!

I never been to Kinshasa, but i have families there, Friends as well.

But i know that Transportation is the worst of all Big cities of more than 5 million people.

Kinshasa is almost 10 million people . and its growing and still no master plan for the city , neither a Mass Transit System in place.

They ca,e out with some news that the existing Rail will be rehabilitated and clearing the areas is due to start in July(Even though i know its sounds like a Joke, as they have always been).

But up came up with an idea that i think can be a relief to people living in Kinshasa.

$2.5 billion for a 5 years Plan for mass Transit.

Red Lines: Existing Lines.(Need total reconstruction.) Gombe-Tshangu/Airport.

Blue Line; Gombe-UNIKIN-Tshangu/Airport. ; I would like it to a Subway line.

Green Lines: Interconnectors.

Section 1. Centre Ville or CBD.(Offices, Hotels, Shopping/Leasure, Banks, HQs).

Section 2 Martyrs and Tata Rafael Stadiums, Palais de la Nation, Place du Peuple, N'dolo Airport, Bandal Commune, Grand Hospital under construction, Matonge Neihgborhood.

Section 3; UNIKIN (Universite de Kinshasa).

Section 4; Tshangu district, N'djili International Airport, N'djili , Masina Communes.

Section 5; Kalamu, Limete, Ngiri-Ngiri, Bumbu ,Makala, Lemba,Selembao, Kingabwa Communes.

Mbinza and most of Ngaliema will be served by Busses to take people to the nearest Train line since these places are less populated anyways.

My focus is were most people live.

And these will be among the Larg Bus Transit Routes.

Here are some of the Major Boulevards and Avenues that are currently being widened.

Red Line on top , Boulevard du 30 Juin. 8 km long being widened to 2x3 and 2x4.

Red Line on South East. Lumumba Boulevard; 15 km long, from 2x2 to 2x3 and 2x4 in some areas.

Blue Line
to the West ; Is Avenue de Liberation; 13 kms and will be 2x3.

Green Line
North-south is Huileries Avenue and will be 2x3. (I think, i will have to recheck.

Green Line
East-West ; Boulevard Triomphal and Boulevard Sendwe; 5 km and will be 2x4.

Green line in far left on the river is Avenue du Tourism and will 2x2

Blue Line in the East or right side is Avenue Poid Lourds and has plans to be rebuilt and widened as well. and its longer than 10 km.

The dark green to the west or left side is Matadi Route.

More Bus Lanes

The currently railway system will be renovated We can't afford a subway system, but a well-developed bus system could be very efficient! A very good organized system with links between train and bus, modern wait spaces with insformation screens and a modern system to pay.

A very interesting system is the IRT in Cape town:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...768440&page=39

The project could be started with 4 lines, 10 busses (or trains) for each line.

3 modern bus lines
line1: boulevard du 30 juin
line2: gare centrale - boulevard lumumba-université
line3: gare central - gombe - Université

1 modern and direct train line (or bus line)

line4: Gare centrale-ndjili airport. (max 5 stops)

4 major bus stops-station
1:gare centrale
2:ndjili
3:A station which is the link between line2 and line 4 (near lumumba blv)
4:Université

The bus lines would be not too expansive, it's an affordable investment.
Line 4 could be a "rapid bus line" or a "direct bs line" that would be cheaper.

I like your system.

But the Number of busses or train are very few. I will suggest that number of busses be increased between 6 am and 9 pm and have fedwer at night because of dead traffic.

you would be surprised, Kinshasa is up until the early hours in the morning, especially when there is electricity people blast music all night long since most don't have to go to work the next day. If the service is there people will use it. Constant electricity will transform the city into a sleepless city, security at night is another factor that played on people's mind.

Two modern public train lines will sufficient:

- Ndjili Gare Central
- UPN Kinsuka and Gare Central

The rest, live it to private enterprise, they already doing a super good job by providing alternative public transportation for millions of kinois. Government should help these guys with subsidize loans for them to acquire more buses and taxis… after all, it is a big industry, and it employs a lot people.

I want another line.

UPN Kinsuka to UNKIN to Masina/N'Djili Airport. This will decongest the existing line.

UNKIN is a very important Institution that must have easy exess from both ends east and west. It should be expanded modernized and totally rebuilt from cratch thats why i want so much Cement and Steel.

Totally agree, i dislike the government running such an industry , anything. That belongs to private sector.

Fantastic! It is reassuring to realize that the DRC possesses a reservoir of expertise which future competent and responsible leaders can tap into in the effort to develop the country.

Responsible leadership is almost inexistant.

I can't see this happening anytime soon but it gives a good idea of what Kin can look like with a few more much needed basic projects.

Indeed, the incumbent provincial government being incompetent beyond redemption, there is nothing to expect from it as far as conceiving and implementing grand urban projects. To my knowledge, this project is a private initiative that has yet (if ever) to be approved by either the central or the provincial government.
However, its mere existence is a big asset at the disposal of a future – competent and responsible - provincial government. In any case, a definitive solution to the dramatic transportation problem in Kinshasa must be quickly found before the situation gets out of hand.

Of course not anytime soon. We all know what creature leading the province.

This is the vision presented by the same guy with Mikonga town project.
