I adore the interior, very nice blend of modern and traditional looking themes.

why? why on earth is such housing (which looks like social security apartments from europe) would sell for so much? I mean its located in the middle of nowhere, so it can't be the land price? there are no building standards nor labour standards in iraq to push the prices up, nor is there anything exotic in these buildings (like solar thermal air conditioning for example) to justify this price?

just as a comparison. go to www.ingatlan.hu and see far superior apartments, in central budapest, on a hill overlooking the danube with shopping malls, metro and trams nearby selling for 1/3rd of the price of those apartments in the middle of nowhere! (btw, hungary has a GDP PPP 5x that of Iraq's! so its not like they're poverty stricken). hell go search for apartments in beautiful parts of germany, italy, france, spain all better quality, in far superior locations selling for a fraction of the price!

what gives?

Shaytan calm down a bit! I've been to Europe and trust me its far from being like social security appartments..the interior is well designed and well planned. Compared to the rest of Iraq, it has 24/7 security, water and electricity, thats why prices are high. Iraq real estate market is 5 times more expensive than Canada! My house in Montreal, Canada is way cheaper than my dads house in Karrada..Lands can go up to 600$/ meter square in baghdad only, while in Montreal its 200$/Square meter..

:0 are you sure? an apartment in dashty bahasht goes for 60,000 and you can buy the villa there for 170,000 also, the best villa in green land which is built on a 1000 m2 land (400 m2 property) goes for 350,000.

The prices are not expensive, housing in the middle east in general would never make as much money as somewhere like England, because in England there is a general look to the exterior of the house and people would mostly look at the location and interior of the house, but when dealing with houses in the middle east people don't really look at the outside as they usually want it to be their own plan and so most of the time only the land counts, if there was a general look to the exterior and not a new model coming out everyday because that's how it is, its become like fashion.. peoples mind change daily and the house even though it might be a perfectly fine house will lose value simply because the exterior might not be to someones liking, I bought a house in erbil not too far from the town center in 1999 for 26,000, in 2007 it was worth 350,000 and now its 200,000 maximum simply because its out of style

In Iraq (Kurdistan) appartements are very cheap, because people there are used to big houses for there own. Now they share a building with a lot of other people.

Besides of that, Iraqi Kurdistan got a lot of land and less people.
There are just 5 million people over 80.000 km2 land. I live in The Netherlands and if you compare Iraqi-Kurdistan with the Netherlands, you see how big the difference is:

The Netherlands: 40.000 km2 land - Population: almost 17.000.000
Iraqi Kurdistan: 80.000 km2 land - Populaton: 4.500.000 á 6.000.000

That's why land is cheaper in Kurdistan then in The Netherlands, or other small country's with a big population.
Kurdistan is mostly mountains and most of it can't be populated though..
