Sacramento - USA

Sacramento, California

City population (2004): 450,000 (96 sq mi)
Metro Population (CSA, 2004): 2,100,000

California's fourth largest metropolitan area. First incorporated city in CA, and largest northernmost city in the state. Birthplace of the California Gold Rush when gold was discovered 20 miles east of downtown in the Sierra Nevada foothills (Coloma) in 1848. Was also the western terminus of the Pony Express, Wells Fargo and the first transcontinental railroad.

5/10 for the skyscrapers, but I think the city is very pretty with the snow-capped mountains in the background. As I'm sure your'e aware, Sacramento is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. I'm sure we can expect a lot more growth downtown.

P.S. How are the housing prices when compared to other California cities, especially the coastal ones?

That's actually an office building known locally as the "Ziggurat". It used to be the regional HQ for the Money Store before they went under and now houses state government offices. It was actually the first building in the United States designed and built completely using the principles of Feng Shui. It's usually completely lit up at night and is very unique looking right on the banks of the Sacramento River:

Compared to much of coastal California, Sacramento is still considered a "bargain". (Thus, the continuing mass influx of former Bay Areans and Angelinos). Being only about an hour NE from San Francisco, many are willing to trade a longer commute for a bigger house. Though times are quickly changing. The current Sacramento housing market cannot build enough homes to meet current demand, thus quickly rising prices and lot values. I believe the average home has appreciated an average of 36% in the last year alone.

And when I say "bargain" please keep in mind that is by California's rediculously high and over-inflated standards. The "bargain" median home price in the Sacramento area is now well over $400,000 USD.

Rather pleasing, and Sacramento can especially be proud of its lovely capitol building and of the "Ziggurat." I give Sacramento an 8.

Actually the skyline "is" pretty bad for its size whover said it wasn't...Sacramento is a pretty decent sized city (as of now lately), granite these pictures do it little justice but still I'm suprised this city looks the same it did 4 years ago...

A lot nicer than I would have expected it to be. I give it a 6.5/10.

Pretty setting. Dismal skyline for the size of the metro area. Sacremento metro is at or near 2 million and cities with half the population, such as Hartford and Austin, have better skylines. It's the capital of our largest state. Should be a lot better.

4/10

Because it has grown so fast, I would think that the downtown area is lagging behind the population. Like I said earlier, give it time and I think it will be a great downtown, IMHO.

Do the Bradfords still live in Sacramento? Actually, on a serious note, does the Arnold live in Sacramento or just commute back and forth to Maahreeeaaahhh and the kids in LA? Probably flies one of his planes up for the work week.
