Those are modern cities!

The best preserved city can be Meybod in the heart of the desert where the ancient six storey Narin Castle, the largest mud structure in the world (and probably the largest man-made historical structure by volume), with an area of 350,000 square meters (500x700 meters) is located. There are numerous buildings from at least 3,000 years ago in this city.

I have talked about some famous buildings in Meybod in this thread: Introduce unique buildings

It is a good question to ask how people lived in the hot desert from the ancient times, you can find the answer in Google Map:

Another view of Meybod:

Granada, Spain
Trinidad, Cuba
Vienna
Bamberg, Germany

Rome is the best preserved city in the world. Other European cities utterly pale in comparison to the vast numbers of very old buildings that Rome has. Indeed, in the first century, London was a tiny, newly-formed trading village and Rome was the capital of a mighty empire.

It had in fact over 1.000.000 inhabitants at the end of the 1st century. The first city to reach that after Rome was Baghdad in the 8th century. And it appears also Beijing passed the 1.000.000 point in medieval times.

Imagine...

Rome is young city in comparison to some old cities in the Middle East, like Susa, in fact there were no city in Europe when Susa was the capital of a huge empire, the name of this city has been mentioned in the oldest known texts and it was a big city from at least 6,200 years ago.

the difference is that those are mostly rubble, while Rome is still there...and the difference is that Rome kept adding buildings and works of art for all its 2700 years of existence, not merely a few centuries as most of the other cities of the world

Susa is still there too, Rome is already just a modern city with some historical buildings, like many other cities in the world, it is certainly not one of the best preserved cities because most of the buildings look modern.
