GALLERY | Out & About

Just looking in the NZ forum and it appears there are no Christchurch pics. I did a thread on Christchurch a few years ago but its since vanished.

Does anyone have any pics of Christchurch?

It snowed there a few days ago - quite deep aparently.
Also it has a new art gallery/museum in the center of town which is quite interesting.

I've got a few pics from when I went to the south island in the last holidays (about 6 weeks ago). I took 320 pics in total, but only a fraction of those are pics of Christchurch. Might post some soon if I get time.

New Zealanders have a real bee in their bonnet about the weather. The rest of the world laughs at us because of it! Well, they do in the UK, especially anything to do with wind

Nice little street with tram line.

I love how the new building comes out of the old one in the last pic. I didnt get any good photos of it though.
The rest of the photos are on my website . I really really didn't take enough of christchurch.

Yes. They do tend to over do it sometimes with the ''more English than England'' thing. It would be nice if they changed the focus to more of a Kiwi-cosmopolitan with a touch of England.

That's Clarendon Tower, and their basic design guideline was to integrate well with the existing building, as to not impact the old architecture too much (Christchurch conservatives for you). And that's a really nice photo of the art gallery you took - postcard worthy definitely.

And many people in Christchurch hate the English thing, me included. I mean, I'm happy for it to go so far, but I think we've left that behind long ago. Makes us sound so mono-cultural, sedate, boring even.

Snowfall wasn't too bad, its passed now and it was actually quite warm yesterday.

Christchurch Cathedral at the very heart city.

The Chalice - A year 2000 sculpture by Neil Dawson. It is representing leaves of native trees being swept up in the hot nor'west wind that blows across Christchurch and Canterbury.

Market trading in Cathedral Square.

Sorry about the size of the last two pictures, I need to work out how to enlarge another time.

My first picture post
