Yeah..you are right, Vietnamese is used heavily in VN forum.

I think I'll start with something at my heart about Hanoi. Just trying to give you some overall feelings abt my city:
- Hanoi downtown: the Hoan Kiem (Sword return) lake:

The Pen tower in Hoan Kiem lake:

- The Temple of Literature:

- The one-pillar pagoda:

- Hanoi Opera Houe - one of the most well-known colonial buildings in VN:

- The ceramic road:

- Traffic in Hanoi is pretty bad:

....

Some of the new Hanoi:
- View from the West Lake in Hanoi:

- Construction in Hanoi is booming. We expect to see another image of Hanoi very soon:

Quote:
A US$350 million bidding agreement for the construction of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project was signed yesterday between the Railway Department and a Chinese company.

It was the largest bidding package so far for design, equipment and installation between the China Railway No.6 Engineering Group Co and the Viet Nam Railway Department.

Under the agreement, signed in Ha Noi, the Chinese partner will provide 52 carriages, build the viaduct and railway stations and provide the technology.

“The railway, expected to finished in 2014, is to serve the Southwest to the inner city, the busiest route in Ha Noi,” department deputy director Tran Quy Thuong said.

Four-carriage trains will travel the 13km route with an average speed of 35km per hour and a maximum speed of 80km per hour with the capacity of 28,500 passengers an hour.

The line is the biggest part of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated train project, which will cost $552 million, with $419 million funded by a loan from the Chinese Government.

It will have 12 overhead stations, starting from Cat Linh, in front of the Horizon Hotel, through Hao Nam, Hoang Cau, Thai Thinh 1, Nga Tu So, Nguyen Trai, Tran Phu, Quang Trung, National Highway 6 and the new Ha Dong coach station.

this is the only urban railway project in real construction in Hanoi,it's LRT.
and there is one subway project has started constructions in 29/10/2010,but for now,it's still in preparation!

about Saigon, there are two subway lines have already started construction, one in 2008,one in 2010. For now, they are still in preparation! just like in Hanoi!

in about 10th to 14th century, Angkor in Cambodia is the largest metropolis on earth... as Cambodian you should be proud.

Now the largest metropolis in Southeast Asia on both population and coverage area is Jakarta Raya/Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), and Greater Manila.
However the infrastucture in Singapore and KL is far more advance.

Vietnam is changing rapidly

Hanoi alone has hundreds of buildings (200-300+) 12 floors or above under construction

Domino’s Pizza launches its first outlet in Vietnam
http://www.retail-digital.com/sector...outlet-vietnam

Domino’s Pizza opens up its first store in Vietnam as a part of its expansion plans, giving a tasty surprise to the Vietnamese.

After marking robust gains in the UK and Ireland region, Domino’s Pizza, the largest pizza delivery restaurant service in the world, has geared up to capture the Vietnam market. Domino’s has opened up its first outlet in the Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam.

Michael Lawton, interim executive vice president for Domino's Pizza International is excited about this new venture. She said, "Opening our first store in the largest city in Vietnam gives us an excellent entryway into this growing economy. We have an excellent Master Franchisee who has the knowledge and skills needed to grow our brand into the leader in the market."

Vietnamese now have an excellent food option if they are bored eating noodles with fish sauces and duck meats.

The Vietnamese outlet established by Domino’s Pizza in the Ho Chi Minh City is a joint venture between Domino’s Pizza and Vietnamese franchisee Vietnam Food & Beverage Service, a fully-owned subsidiary of the Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPP Group).

The IPP Group operates food and beverage outlets for a variety of brands in Vietnam so is well placed to develop Domino's into a leading brand in the country.

Domino's is also to set to extend its operations by opening up numerous new stores in the regions across the world. Domino’s is geared up to achieve the target of 55 additional branched by the year-end.

Pizza Hut building collapses day before inaugurationDamn this is really bad , on their first day opening.

A new five-floor Pizza Hut on Huynh Thuc Khang street in Hanoi's Dong Da district collapsed into rubble at 4pm on March 31, mere hours before it was scheduled to be inaugurated on April 1.

District police on the scene told Vietnam News that no casualties had been reported, but refused to provide further information.

The collapse also caused massive damage to the adjacent five-floor residential building and the Dang Khoa computer shop.

Vu Xuan Truong, a security guard at the computer shop, said dozens of people, including staff and residents, were all evacuated about one hour before the collapse.

A crack was discovered in the wall of the newly-renovated structure at around 2pm and quickly reported to local authorities, he said.

"The house tilted gradually but then it finally collapsed so quickly. I heard a loud noise before I lost all vision because dust had filled the air," said Nguyen Hoang Viet, a witness who lives in the neighbourhood.

An unnamed man on the scene told Vietnam News that he was among several workers hired to tear down the front walls of the structure last December to make way for full-length windows.

"I think the accident might be traced back to the removal of too many concrete walls," he said.

Viet said the house was first erected in the mid 1990s and had been let out for a long time. It was most recently a guest house.

Traffic was backed up for more than five hours after the incident with rubberneckers and large clean-up vehicles clogging the road.

Firefighters started clearing the rubble at 9pm.

Pizza Hut representatives were unreachable after the incident./.

5 floors, is it because the rent is cheap, or do they really have that many dine in customers?

The pizza restaurant was not openned yet.

That building was built in 1994 using bricks. When they modified its structure to sell pizza, they removed the supporting bricks and replace them with big glass, thus destroying the original structure and making it collapsed. It was lucky that they hadn't served any customers yet.

More photos:
- Before collapsing:

- Collapsing:

- And the final result:

Anyway, I hate pizza. That kind of cheap food is extremely unhealthy.

The 102-story PVN Tower, which was slated to become the tallest skyscraper in Vietnam, now has 79 stories only, the Vietnam Economic Times reported. At 79 stories, PVN Tower will no longer claim title to the tallest building in the country. The record will be passed on to a 100-story five star hotel project that Kinh Bac City Development Corporation (Lotus Hotel) has slated for construction in the capital.

The adjustment will allow PetroVietnam Construction to cut its investment to US$600 million from the original estimate of $1 billion.

Accordingly, PVC and other members will take 15% of capital and invite some foreigners to work together, towards the foreign partners to hold controlling shares. PVC is currently in negotiations with a number of the group as Hyundai, Samsung of Korea for financial arrangements. According to Mr.Vu Duc Thuan, PVC will increase its chartered capital from 2000 billion to 5000 billion VND, while the capital of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group in PVC will withdraw to 20% instead of 40% today.

PVN Tower will be built on 25 hectares of land in Me Tri commune, Tu Liem district, Ha Noi for business in the areas of office, commercial centers, hotels, apartment... maximum height of 500m. The building will bring the international symbol for Vietnam's oil and gas industry.

PVN will begin constructing in the beginning of 2012 and completed in 2015.

Second Prize: Fender Katsalidis Architects (FKA) - Australia

It is probably wise to do that, $400m is a price to big for a #1 title, for a couple of years. Make the building unique and special in other way and you can't be beaten for a very long time.
