I can't decide abojut this one. One thing is certain. Nothing modern was getting built there. It's brick, brick and more brick around there, courtesy of the heritage brigade. However, it's grey, which will look classier and it will look better than the Home Quarter grey building over the road (which in itself is miles better than the Tesco) due to a more coherent design. I think this could turn out similar to the Paradise St building with the apartments in it. Quite smart but unprepossessing.

The Ropewalks area needs something iconic - this building made Graz a bit more interesting:

Has this been designed on Google Sketch-up? It's not bad, but i wouldn't really expect anything better here. I'd like to see some higher quality renders, but it is very very similar to the new West Derby school.

Anybody have any idea how big the footprint is exactly? Do the hotel, 3 restaurants behind and the new street (David Lewis street) take up the whole site or are further buildings planned behind? (can't quite tell from the plan)Wasnt there talk of a square at trhe back?

Its a bad use of sketchup but I think buggedboy is right, the use of grey brick should break the usual run of red brick crap we end up with in abundance.

Does anyone know what its clad in. The black brick on the new Holiday Inn, Oxford Road, Manchester looks pretty good. However it may be likely that we end up with a darker version of the Lime St halls in the centre of town. Which would be unfortunate...

I've missed another Crane erection!!!!

Wish I could have being there to capture this.

Below is a close up view of a similar Tower Crane erection by Watkins Jones in Chester in July 2008.

Full set here...

A bet it's a Liebherr 160 HC-L 8/16 Litronic Luffing Jib Crane, Watkins Jones bought 2 new Liebherr 160 HC-L 8/16 Litronic Luffing Jib Cranes for there Northgate Street Chester Development in 2008, this development was halted by the credit crunch, both cranes stayed up until Sept 2010, when they were taken down.
One was put back up in the same spot in Jun the local PCT is development the site as a NHS Super Clinic

A close up view of a similar view by buggedboy
