The local Brazilian community has submitted a request to the Consulate General of Brazil in Hong Kong for the opening of a consular representation in the MSAR.
According to Portuguese-language newspaper Tribuna de Macau, the House of Brazil in Macau would like to have a place in the territory where Brazilian citizens can take care of personal documents, instead of having to go to Hong Kong.
The Consulate General of Brazil in Hong Kong was created 30 years ago.
In addition, the local association asked the consulate to be allowed to set up a voting ballot in Macau for elections in their home country. Currently there are 200 to 300 Brazilian citizens based in Macau, the association estimates, but there are no up to date official figures.
