6 key Philippine ports face expansion
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is bent on expanding six major ports any way it can — either on its own, through private sector investment or a public-private partnership. PPA assistant general manager for operations Raul Santos identified the ports as Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Zamboanga. full story |

TURNOVER CEREMONY OF BANAGO PORT FACILITIES FROM DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES (DENR) TO THE PHILIPPINE PORTS AUTHORITY (PPA)
A turn-over ceremony took place on July 27, 2011 at exactly 2 :00 o’clock in the afternoon at Banago Port, Bacolod City. It started with a welcome address given by Mr. Enrique H. Fuentebaja, Port Manager, PPA, PMO – Pulupandan. PPA and DENR Had earlier contested the ownership and operational jurisdiction of the Banago Port after the expiration of the foreshore lease contract agreement entered into by the shipping firm, Negros Navigation Co., with the government in August 2009. Mr. Angelo M. Salvio, AVP, Ship Management Division NN, has given a brief History of Banago Port. He added that a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the two government agencies on July 4 in Metro Manila, which led to the settlement of issues, allowing PPA to take control of the Banago Port facilities, for rehabilitation and development. An inspiring thoughts about BANAGO PORT was revealed at the front which reads: B - UILDING A - CESS and N - ETWORKS to A - TTRACT G - OODS O - THER trades And passengers and P - ROVIDING O - RDERLY R - EVITALIZED T - ERMINAL Reading of the Memorandum of Agreement by Ms. Fetsy U. Diamante, PPA Manager, Resource Management Division followed to inform the audience of its contents and the obligations of both agencies leading to the early development of the port. Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Valentin P. Talabero who represented the DENR Secretary gave his message and turned over a copy of MOA for the transfer of Banago Port Facilities to PPA Assistant General Manager of Operations, Mr. Raul T. Santos who also presented the Development Plan of Banago Port. He stressed that they will conduct a hydraulic study on the Banago Port and to determine the behavior of siltation, and to delineate the port zone, before the development commences. He added that they will be constructing ramps for use by the ro ro vessels, which can be ready within the year. Congressman of lone District of Bacolod City, Rep. Anthony Rolando T. Golez, MD also graced the occasion. He encouraged the support from different sectors and stressed that after the signing of MOA he expects PPA to construct at least two roll-on-roll-off berthing facilities, reconstruct a kilometer-long causeway, and expand its terminal and complex, to cater to a heavy volume of passengers. Among the personalities present in the occasion are Mayor Manuel Escalante III, Executive Assistant of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Bacolod City, Joan Nathaniel F. Gerangaya. Also present is Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, Negros Occidental 4th District and Bacolod City Administrator Roger Balo, who represented Mayor Avelio Leonardia who also expressed support for the development of the Banago Port. Closing Remarks was given by Atty. Fernando B. Claveria, Port District Manager, PDO Visayas. He stated his greatfullness for the success of the occasion. Government Officials expect faster economic growth in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, with the turnover of the Banago Port Facilities from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the Philippine Ports Authority, which will pave the way for its further development. source |

Such expansion can be justified given a fact that the volume of cargo being handled along with it's passengers exceeded, an indication of stable and robust economy..... just bring it on!!!Quote:
Typical smaller ports with int'l standard around Japan, what missing was the giant gantry crane onshore that handle containers and such

siguro migs, when everything else is settled down like if the whole bredco project is 100% finished, that will be the time that all of those will take place. also, i guess, with a proper zoning, bredco can become world class and can be comparable to other international ports in the world.
