Destructive waves has hit Indonesia coast. Oh look at this post from abc blog!!

8.58pm: Witness tells Reuters agency that sea water at Simeulue Island near epicentre of quake has been receding by about 10 metres.

Unbelievable movement of the ground!

And what happens once the plates move back into place and release all that energy of water back up to the shore? This has potential disaster written allover it. Sumatra must be the barrier in the way of a tsunami threatening Australia

Funny that all the news outlets I can see are reporting no major tsunami activity. Infact they're saying it was a horizontal slip, rather than a vertical, which means far less water displacement, and far less impact of tsunamis.

Report of water has hit Christmas and Cocos Islands in the NW waters. Stupid BoM isn't releasing warnings.....

3.6metres of water has hit Indonesia.

Another major aftershock of 5.6 just then!

It looks like it'll be ok. The difference between this and boxing day is that this was 120km away from from the subduction zone and not on the edge of the plate

10:46pm: The Indian Ocean tsunami watch has been cancelled. The Tsunami Warning Centre says sea level readings indicate that "the threat has diminished or is over for most areas."
