Macao reserves hotels for 2005 East Asian Games
MACAO, Jan. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The 4th East Asian Games Organizing Committee (MEAGOC) of the Macao Special Administrative Region has signed an agreement with 23 local hotels booking hotel rooms to meet the accommodation needs during the 4th East Asian Games this year.
The contract will ensure over 3,000 rooms in the 23 hotels, which fall to either four or five-star rankings. This meant that the MEAGOC has booked 60 percent of Macao's four and five-star hotel rooms for the games. The MEAGOC will allocate some 47 million patacas (about 6 million US dollars) for contracting the hotel rooms. MEAGOC officials considered the sum of expenditure is more economic than building a new games village to provide accommodation for the event. The 4th East Asian Games to be held between Oct. 29 and Nov. 6 this year will be the largest sports event ever host by Macao. Around 6,000 participants were estimated to be gathering in Macao during the games. They include athletes, officials, East Asian Games Association and Olympic family members, media, and invited guests. The MEAGOC has designated the Landmark Hotel as the headquarters hotel, another eight hotels for sports delegations, four hotels for technical officials, three VIPs hotels, two hotelsfor the Host Broadcaster and five for media. Besides the hotel rooms, the organizing committee is seeing to the building of a boarding complex on the Taipa Island of Macao, which will provide some 4,000 rooms for athletes and coaches participating the event.
