Where would I go to find about possible future high rises? Contact the city?
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I are planning on purchasing a condo suite in the Yonge/Sheppard area, one being Radiance at Minto Gardens right on the Y/S intersection. The suites we are looking at are facing west... great view, which leads to my question: I have a sneaky feeling that the Dominion and National Sports in front of the Minto condo are going to be demolished and replaced with another condo or two some day. Which would replace my nice view of a horizon of trees and such with a of closeup of glass walls, so... Where can I look, or who can I contact to get info on possible zone changes, etc. for this kind of thing? To be honest, this would be my first home purchase, I'd appreciate any help I can get, thanks

The chances that site will NOT get a highrise development is pretty much zero.
But who cares...by the time they do, you can sell your appreciated condo and buy something else. Or just buy something with a more guaranteed view. KGB |

Anyone care to chance a guess on the time frame for construction to start on that spot?
Basically, we'd probably be there for 2-3 years max before moving on, so as long as nothing happens before then, theres no problem right?

3 years is a very safe time period. IMO

8 to 10 years - the spot is reserved for a commercial development |

The mall with the Dominions was going to be redeveloped in the 80's. Problem was the owner of the land and the owner of the lease on the land couldn't come to an agreement on this. At that point the leaseholder just renovated the mall. I think the leaseholder had 25 years at that point on the land which would mean another 10 years or so at this point. Of course it was a while back so I could be wrong on the details.

It would have to go threw the planning process which would take a year minimum. Nothing is currently planned and probably won't be planned until the lease runs out. You're safe!

By the time that lease runs out, the rest of Yonge St in NYCC will be filled. Given it will be right at the main intersection of NYCC, I would imagine this to be one very valuable chunk of land. It's also a pretty big site...since it will be one of the last and most desireable sites in NYCC, I see some big buildings...probably another big mixed-use project with direct subway access like Empress Walk..only BIGGER!!
I mean com'on...we can't let Mississauga build taller buildings than NYCC can we? KGB |

Skymark (Tridel) & Spectrum (Menkes) has unobstructed views, & seeing that Hwy. 401 is just south of it, the views will most likely stay. Sorry for the errors.

Spectrum is by Menkes, not minto. And Avondale is by Shane Baghai, not tridel. Tridel did Skymark and Minto did Radiance at Minto Gardens.
