both are equally impressive... though Gaudí's SF its one of a kind.. i'm not saying is better than KD, but they are pretty different.. you should do a poll between KD and Barcelona's Cathedral, both were started in the 13th century and ended in the 19th... that comparation would make sense... but you can't compare Gaudí's tour-de-force with absolutely anything else in Europe... maybe some asiatic temples..

Barcelona Cathedral (main building: 1298-circa1450, new facade: 1882-1912):

The Sagrada Familia reminds me always of Angkor Wat in cambodia:

And how I knew PF before, but in 85 I heard Ummagumma for the first time - that changed my life! But there is no piece of music in the world as Echoes (I will get burried with that epos if everything works... fine )!

I'm not sure if I'm following you, but if SF isn't Gaudí's Masterwork, which one would be? Milà House? Batlló House? ... structurally, SF is Gaudí's paradigm of his re-interpretation of the gothic structures, that's where his real creative genius flourished, you can't even compare it with Roger Waters' epic structures in Meddle... and I have to admit that even if I'd chose Milà House (my fave) over SF any time.. -would chose Water's Echoes over any Yes or E,L&P song too.. -

and about pomposity.. it will be hard to find any gothic cathedral in Europe that doesn't have it.. in fact, you should look for any catalan gothic structure, like Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona.. that's got to be the most austere european gothic you'll ever find... boring, but clear and solid.
