Completed: Mesaieed Sports Complex

The Peninsula - 26/09/2004

DOHA: A multi-purpose sports complex having facilities for cricket, soccer, volleyball and basketball will be built in 2006 at Mesaieed, said Malek Omar Al Dafea, facilities manager of Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC), on Friday.

He was speaking at a function organised by Pak Bazme Ahbab, an organisation of expat Pakistanis working in different industries in Mesaieed, to mark the Independence Day of Qatar and Pakistan.

Pakistan embassy's Community Welfare Attache, Akhtar Anwar Siddiqi, presided over.

Al Dafea said a lot of development was going on in Mesaieed and the MIC management was working on different projects for the welfare of different communities residing in the industrial city of Mesaieed.

"Very shortly you will be having a very good community park for families," said Al Dafea. He noted that Mesaieed Community Cricket tournament and Ramadan Cricket Tournament started last year were a huge success and the whole MIC community, particularly the Asian community, welcomed it. "This year we are planning to organise MIC Community Badminton Tournament", remarked Al Dafea.

Earlier, Pakistani children clad in traditional costume, presented patriotic songs, tableaus and skits. Shahid Mehmood presented a naat while Khalid Sajjad Bhatti recited poetry of Dr Mohammad Iqbal. Hafiz Farooq and Muneer Ahmed gave speeches on the subject of independence movement, which led to the creation of Pakistan in 1947. A cake was also cut to mark the occasion.

Siddiqi, highlighting the significance of the independence day, thanked Qatari government for providing excellent working conditions for Pakistani working force. Zafar Iqbal, chief patron of the organisation, proposed a vote of thanks. Furqan Paracha, compered the programme.

I think mesaieed is going to have a major face lift. There are alot of facilities that are being built around the city, including serious infrastructure work.

lol!!!
true. thob is not allowed in nightclubs or bars, excluding some restaurants that serves alcohol. you see our, ahem ahem, friends come to doha, stay in hotels, get drunk and go imediately to the dance floor wearing thob, which is a very bad sight, and they become a laughing stock for the patrons who thinks all locals & gulf people behave like this.

lol. Who said we were talking about saudiz.. lol.. maskeen walla i dont blame them. Bus come on guys there are bad q8ities, bad qataris, its just that the bad saudis happen to be the worst.. .in the world !!

I remeber a friend told me that this plays has a sign "no dogs, no locals, no sports shoes allowed." I was tempted to show up with a dog in thoub wearing nikes, just to see the reaction.

Unfortuantly when locals or 5aleeji get drunk they tend to forget where they are.

Guys,
That's something I feel angry about. How can there be racism towards Qataris in our own country? I mean I encounter people who speak broken English and think they're more intelligent than us and treat us like second class citizens. How should I approach these situations? It's worse in Qatar than in any other country I have lived in or travelled to.
