Did a quick search and couldn't find anything about this project, and I just stumbled across these images so I thought I'd post them. Some of them are old, but I haven't seen those pictures this large though. The construction should start when the harbour in Vuosaari is complete. If there's already a thread for this then feel free to move it there.

Apparently the Vuosaari harbour will begin to function in 2008
But other sources claim the construction in Pasila could begin in the summer of 2007.

So I guess between 2007-2008 would be the close to the right answer.

Small addition, a 14-story building being planned immediately adjacent to the "highrise" area.

I got the height of the red box from one of the other buildings which is being planned as 14 stories as well, might throw off a tad. It's more to show the location anyway.





I just hope there's enough demand for space after all this is complete to justify a 40-floorer or two (maybe even a 50-story one )
(and the political courage to take on the dreaded NIMBY's)
That pointless stump of railway could be transformed in to a mini la-defence

The only official numbers, which aren't written in stone yet (that I know of), are in floors.

Forum Virium is estimated to be around 100m
And the highest of the Zucchi buildings is estimated to be around 90m

mini update: The plan was postponed so that the construction will not start until 2015, BUT there will now be 10 unique towers about 40-storey each. No new pictures, tho.

Also (some of) the towers will be mixed use with apartments in the top as far as I understood. Excellent news!

Some other updates might be in orders as well, Forum Virium which was mentioned in 2006 won't be 100m tall, in fact it will be closer to 10m. They opted for a regular office building.

To bad about the delay and the late start but 10 unique towers about 40-storeys each sounds amazing!

Yeah, it does. The problem is that they've put off the start of the construction so many times already, I can't help but wonder if they're ever actually going to start.

If this had been inner Stockholm the locals would have gone nuts and the politicians would have argued pretty much.
And the leading morning papers would have started a campaign of hugh proportions.

But that is Stockholm!

Could it be different in Helsinki?

The Keski Pasila project has pretty broad political backing, there will obviously be complaints from NIMBYS but I doubt they can ruin it. Economic realities on the other hand.. Well, I'm optimistic.. Although looking back at this thread not much of what was planned has been realized, yet at least. Maybe I'm confusing optimism with blissful ignorance.
