Revitalization of postindustrial areas

Hi guys!
I have to do a project about revitalization of postindustrial areas across Europe excluding Poland, so if you have any information (photos, articles or just names of areas which undergone a revitalization) about redevelopment of former industrial zones, don't be afraid to post it here I'll be grateful.

Greetings!

Manchester, UK has undergone a huge transformation of former industrial areas, so have some of the other big UK cities but I would say Manchester has had the most change.

What exactly are you looking for? Revitalisation of old industrial areas or revitalisation of more modern post-industrial areas (such as office parks etc)?

Two integrated projects that come to mind from Romania: Iasi and Brasov former industrial sites transformed in "Silicon Valley" Post Industrial Zone and, respectively, into a mixed office-residential-retail areas (Coresi Brasov).

Silicon Valley Project (IT industrial site) taking place of a former textile industry site:

Look for the former situation of Barcelona's Poblenou and the current project of 22@, you'll be surprised.

I think the best known interventions took place in former docklands though. London, Liverpool, Bilbao, Hamburg, Dublin...

Its not a bad score for sure

I think the project in Brasov is quite interesting. Looks like a good thing, also because its not a 08/15 car over everything project. Ie even though a big shopping centre is planned, it is well connected with a pedestrian high street and the project features attractive residential quarters with office buildings next to them. And all the other facilities a quarter would need plus an expo. And all of that right next to the main railway station of the city.

Łódź

More than 90 ha of city area will be totally reconstructed. Huge investment plans include: 1. Underground railway station, 2. New railway connection through the city center, 3. Special Art Zone, Special Cultural Zone, Streets of Four Cultures. The project is supported by public funds. The New City Center project creates opportunities for both institutional and individual investors.

New city centre, as it is called both by the press and authorities, is going to be built on the base of a former factory district.

new Art Zone:

current look:

city is known as a "Polish Manchester"

One of the biggest infrastructural projects in Poland- new train station in Łodź- worth about 500m euro.

it will be used also for HSR:

The whole train station will be placed underground as opposed to what we can see now with Fabryczna's current incarnation.
