Millennium Point
A thread dedicated to MP.
Anyway, quick one for now. Does anyone know why scaffolding and the green netting has been up for the last two years on the front of the building? |

Something loose?
For the record I quite like MP. It is nice enough although it is a wasted opportunity to build something breathtaking. Thinktank needs sorting though - for a fee-paying museum is just isn't good enough - it lacks direction and coherence and the displays do not have enough explanation, and doesn't contain anywhere near as many displays as the old museum. So I say Thinktank should be closed, another museum built, and then both re-opened. One as a Museum for Science, Technology & Innovation, and another as the Birmingham & Midland History Museum

My friends dad is the MD of the company that built this, apparrantly Sir Killalot (of Robot Wars fame) was at its opening ceremony. I've heard its not been as popular as hoped though.

The IMAX Cinema is supposed to be fantastic and I'll take my kid there in the hols. Also, the Planetarium is really smart too.
The Museum was better than I thought it would be when I first went, fearing an hour's entertainment for 12 quid! - in fairness though, my son and I spent about 6 hours in there and we still hadn't seen everything! I did explain to him that several exhibits were missing and the City Of Birmingham Loco used to move up and down the track at Newhall St. I really would like to see the Natural History Museum expanded and built somewhere - my son is also missing out on all the dinosaurs I grew up looking at in the BMAG.

UCE's TIC is doing very well, museum is not. around 1/4 of the retail lets are hired, and IMAX was closed for 6 months because they couldn't afford to keep it running, IMAX was bought out.
It's a bit dull inside, all the dark grey and blue, and workers suffer SBS in some part of the building. Part of the SBS has been fixed by circulating more air and making it more humid, but the dull colours and poor choice in lighting is what they are looking into now. The building also wobbles a lot in high wind. I must admit, some rooms I can get sick in, usually in the rooms near to the centre top of the building. |

Has it? I saw them taking down the fan park banner last week and put up the Alien banner the same day... Maybe it was there before the fanpark thing.

Great news. during the summer, all of the retail units on floor G1 and 3/4 on floor G2 have been bought and are currently being fitted out. They will be the home to UCE's School of Acting.

Finally got the reason out out MP. It is there for H&S after a glass panel fell from the 5th floor and flew 50 feet away from the building towards Curzon rail station. A lot of the glass panels do not fit and are loose.

Why do they need so many electrical sockets in that room? I can't think of anything which would warrant having that many
