Rosario is Argentina's 3rd largest city with a combined metro/city population of 1.2 million people, and wow...if metros of that size in the US were as urban as Rosario, I'd be in heaven. Anyways, here's part one of the tour.
We came into Rosario from the main freeway on Bv. Oroño, which is a lovely street that cuts stright through the city's main park and becomes the western edge of downtown.

Then we parked and headed into the center of town, where there is, like any good Argentine city, a peatonal (pedestrian street). Along Peatonal Cordoba are some of the most jaw-dropping turn of the century buildings I've ever seen. Not to mention the place was packed with people shopping and whatnot.

And then we emerge at the Plaza 25 de Mayo:

Which is where you'll find the georgeous, but sadly neglected, city hall:

And the amazing Cathedral:

Behind the plaza and public buildings is the monument that forms the heart of Rosario, the Monumento Nacional a la Bandera, or the "Flag Monument". But we'll save most of that for part two...

The monument and plaza are really breathtaking. So much stone and so many steps...the monument tower itself reminds me a bit of the San Jacinto Monument, without that gaudy star, of course

Now the cool thing is that you can actually take an elevator to the top of the tower, and of course the view from that high up is amazing. You can really get a feel for how big Rosario is from here.

Then we head north through Rosario's wealthiest area to have lunch at a beachside restaurant. Btw, the body of water is the Paraná river, not an ocean or lake or anything like that.

This is what the condtitions were really like...

Since it was built, the Rosaria-Victoria suspension bridge has actually become quite the tourist attraction, even though it's not really that interesting.

After a long, late lunch, we make our final venture into the city, this time on foot from the Plaza Seucia to Parque Espana.

The city's two tallest (I think...)

My pictures really don't do this place justice, it's incredible. It's just this giant brick staircase that actually serves as a university as well, and it leads from the upper level of Parque Espana to the lower level. I'll tell you one thing, they may not be the best kept in the country, but Rosario's parks are certainly amazing in their form and structure.

And that concludes this little tour of Argentina's 3rd city. I really wish I could have had more time to explore all the nooks and crannies of the city, but alas, this was only a day trip and I had a nice comfortable BsAs apartment waiting for me. I'll have more photo threads coming up before I leave again!

No esperaba encontrarme ese tipo de arquitectura en Rosario, pensaba que sólo se daba en Buenos Aires. Además parece que la ciudad esté llena de edificios modernistas.

Hola a todos!

Las siguientes fotos, pertenecen a la ciudad de Rosario, segunda en importancia en Argentina. Cuna del "Che Guevara", y más cercanos en el tiempo, de "Leo Messi", sus habitantes son los hijos y nietos de inmigrantes italianos y españoles en su mayoría.
Las primeras fotos corresponden a los tiempos de "vacas gordas" de principios del S. XX, y luego de años de letargo económico; las últimas fotos pertenecen a la "nueva Rosario", que tendrá el edificio más alto del país (55p, 177 mts)

Holaaaa a todos para mi mardel es la segunda ciudad mas importante de argentina despues de buenos aires, por su capacidad hotelera, porque es la ciudad mas importante veraniega, porque es elegida para eventos naciones e internacionales de gran nivel, tiene todo lo que tiene que tener una gran ciudad.

Perdón por opinar en este thread, solo quería hacer la salvedad, solo para que no se cometa de nuevo la equivocación del forista catalán, de que Rosario no es la segunda ciudad de Argentina, como tampoco lo es Mar del Plata más allá de su capacidad hotelera. La segunda ciudad de Argentina es Córdoba, con 1.350.000 habitantes, seguida por Rosario con 1.100.000 habitantes y luego Mendoza con 800.000 habitantes, luego puede hablarse de Mar del Plata o Tucumán, ya no sabría cual es mayor a cual.

Inaugurada en hace casi 25 años y con 208 mts, la Torre Espacial es, y por lo visto, seguirá siendo la costrucción mas alta del pais, y creo que de sudamerica lo fue por mucho tiempo. Muy buen foro saludos
