Does Lebanon have any plans for urban rail systems? or suburban??? I know it's a small country but still it might be good. lol

I dont know, I have not heard of any rail projects but it would sound like a difficult task.

no rail system because it would cost the government way to much since the country is basically full of rocky mountains which will be hard to dig through them. Although, I'm not 100% sure but I think there used to be a trail rail from Lebanon to Palestine (Israel) a long time ago, but obviously right now it is closed

yes,there was in lebanon a line called(NBT)Naqura-Beirut-Tripoli.but it's not working now.
there's a plan for a lightrail and underground(metro)lines in beirut.but i'm sure it's halted in the mean time.

I read it on almustaqbal newspaper a while ago.they were talking about metro (underground) along the costal areas of beirut(from ramlet al baida to dbayeh i guess).and this was part of a total change to the beirut transportaion system.

lets hope if it does come true, lebanese won't be discouraged from using it because of foreign workers (kinda like the bus situation ... the big white buses I mean, not the minivans)

If they are discouraged by foreign workers, it's their problem. Why would people be discouraged from using public transport if it is used by foreign workers?

I think this is a dream for the time being. Cairo is the only city in the Arab world that has a metro system and Egypt hardly paid for any of it.

Japan (I am pretty sure Japan was one of the countries) and I think one other country (maybe Germany) paid for most of its construction and are paying for the construction of the new Line 3.

If only some countries would offer to build a metro system for Beirut, but I highly doubt it. Especially in these current times...

i think beirut dose the raods are a nightmare tarfic jams every where
if pple took trians to work school etc less cars less pollution less trafic jams

Lebanese_cedar,it was France and japan,who built the one in cairo.
Dubai is building a metro system,also,algiers
in beirut,it wouldn't coast that much,koz we don't need so many lines.maybe one line would do it all.

lol they're talking about a rail line (underground vs ... over..ground?).

I dunno, personally, I think it would be useless .. maybe rail lines within beirut to reduce the congestions (connection residential neighborhoods to city centers/market centers/ etc) ... then again, we don't have clearly defined suburbs in leb like we do here.

leb is too mountainous to do this, but I would support one along the shore

A party overground and partly underground coastal rail line would be really nice.

a completely underground one is the best solution because Beirut is crowded enough overground! and Beirut needs one desperately...i'd definately use it, metros are the best!
