A North Side high on the south...and even west?

Will a North Side line of lakefront residential high rises that spread from downtown to Devon ever be duplicated on the revviing and regenerating South Side? Will South Side lakefront neighborhoods eventually have the same feel as their North Side counterparts (Hyde Park already does)???

How about on the West Side....will it ever have a high rise residential corridor, perhaps along the Eisenhower? The sight lines along the expressway are quite good, particularly if portions are ever covered by park land. Or if the West Side is to ever have that densit that high rises brings, is it more likely to be along the inland parks, similiar to what New York has along Central Park or St. Louis in Forest Park?

The thing that surprised me on my first trip to Chicago was driving into the city from the South on Dan Ryan and how far away I was from the Loop but could alredy see the skyline with surprising clarity. However once I got onto Lakeshore (I was staying in a hostl near Loyola) I was awed by how the skyline just kept going. I hope someday that's duplicated to the south.

You will see clusters of density on South Lake Shore Drive. Currently there are a two major planning efforts that are just beginning on the south Lakefront (south of central station). First, the Michael Reese site which is being considered for residential/mixed use for the olympics and the Lake Meadows site has the potential for a major redevelopment effort. Stay tuned for more info.

I hope someday we can get a dense neighborhood around Garfield Park.... Nothing supertall, I'm actually thinking 10-12 story buildings. Currently, the economic situation there does not support this, but it is surprisingly gentrifying.

The site at the corner of Central Park and Madison would be such an incredible site for a tall building, though - that site needs some justice, considering the empty-lot status it has currently.
