Can Scotland Do it?

Can Scotland qualify for the Euro 2008 Finals. After a good start including a 1-0 victory over France. I wanna know if you think we have any chances of qualifying for the Tournament.

Yeh, why not. We can beat any team on our day. It's just unlucky that they have to be the World Cup finalists!!

I'd take 4 points from the next two games, though.

We can do it - we need both luck, and positivity.
On top of that, I hope we do it for McLeish. I've always thougtht he came across as a pretty decent guy.

Walter Smith did well for Scotland, but I don't think all the praise he got was wholly warranted - for all his faults, Vogts had laid the groundwork by playing so many different guys, which meant we knew who we had a decent chance with. Smith also had a very fortuitous selection of players to pick from. There was a fair number of players that came through the ranks at exactly the right time..
I think we've gotten away with a lot at the back as well, Weir and Pressley is really a disaster waiting to happen as far as pace is concerned.
Pressley's suspended for the game today, so hopefully Anderson will start. Sadly, I reckon that the traditional Old-Firm bias will apply, and hot-head McManus will start instead. I'm not sure what Anderson needs to do to get his place - I've just looked at the stats, and Aberdeen have one of the lowest (and therefore best) rates of goals scored against them, and Anderson must be bored of getting MOTM awards by now..

Oooh that was a close Game. Scotland were Lucky and Georgia were good. Kris Boyd hit the Bar and then missed a sitter. Overall a good Game. Roll on Italia.

Well the Scotland Team take on Italy tonight, we'll probably get thrashed 3-0 but hey they are the World Champions so now we just need to wait till the game is over... Anyway I am optimistic and think we could possibly pull off a draw. Let's just have hope.

2-0 in Italy but, to be honest, we could have got something (if only a goal) from it and it leaves us with plenty of positives from the game. The loss also leave s4 teams in the running so it won't be easy - we are also off the top for the first time!!

Lots of positives, and although there were a few negatives, that's not necessarily a bad thing, as we have the chance to address them.
Thought Hutton was pretty poor.. but he was better than Alexander, so will likely retain his place. Is there no-one else?
Teale and McCulloch were awful. I'd be tempted to start Maloney on Wed - not just because we need to make replacements, but also because I suspect we'll start with a lone striker, and having Maloney in midfield would mean the lone striker did have some support in attack.
Great as McFadden was, I reckon the best bet is to bring him on to cause trouble around the 70 minute mark.

Ferguson will be back, and that will give us far more stability in midfield. He used to get a lot of stick when in a Scotland strip (some deserved), but I think he's been great the last few times for us.

Really looking forward to it!!

good result 3-1. Ukraine drawing with Georgia made it even better. looks like its up to us to split France and Italy. while France will be the favourites on wednesday, i think we can get a draw. especially now Henry is suspended for the match. if we can get a point and Italy slip up again, i'd go as afar as to say Scotland and France are favourites for the group

Psycology, it was a win win situation. I've just remembered that the Kingston Bridge has no pedestrian access and as such it would be irresonsable for me to carry out the above and endanger the lives of my fellow Glaswegians. Concerning tomorrow, it is of course imperative we win, I hope this 17 year old boy plays in net for them then we can really put him under pressure. I'd have to just fancy Scotia to get the draw against Italy but they will be coming here needing the win probably, lets not forget that theres no guarantee the French will beat the Ukraine away - this could be our safety net, fingers crossed. Turning attention to the FIFA rankings, the updated list will be out tomorrow and I expect to see Scotland climb to 13th at least giving us our highest ever world ranking If we can get the win tomorrow and avoid defeat against Italy then apart from the obvious joy at qualifying for next years finals there will be another huge bonus - Scotland will be among the top 9 ranked European teams and will be a number 1 seed for next months FIFA World Cup 2010 draw!

the world rankings were updated earlier this month, and the next update is scheduled for 24th october, so i wee bit to wait until we climb!

But im sure we will - the Ukraine victory alone will almost guarantee it - and then when we beat georgia......:-)

Georgia 2-0 Scotland.

As disappointing as it was predictable.

Still, a win against the Tallies at Hampden and we're there.

Piece of piss.

Good result on saturday. The lithuanians were diving bastards and that penalty. ARGH!

Anyways france on wednesday, should be a good game, especially since Henry will miss it. If we perform well we could get a draw, really depends on the French performance at the game. if they play like they did when they played Lithuania then we could have a chance.

Were you all watching the same game on Saturday? I thought we were pish for long spells and the Lithuania walked all over us at times. A few of the players never turned up and we looked poor in possession, unable to settle the game down and hold onto the ball. If France come at us like Lithuania did in the second half we'll be annihilated. It also wories me that Scotland arent exactly free scoring in open play. We'll need to careful or the French will sew us up like a kipper with their diving anbd play acting. Got to get rid of Teale and O'connor, McCulloch's always a danger as he's constantly in danger of getting a yellow or red card, he's not exactly subtle. I'd go 4-5-1 on Wednesday and as Miller is injured cant play Boyd as in the lone role he's just pure shite, I'd be inclined to start McFadden up front on his own.

I fear a backlash like after we somehow managed to defeat the dutch. Lets be realistic, we are still pish. We are better organised pish than before but we have a complete diddy as a manager and he is always liable to pluck some random useless eejit out of nowhere and drop him into the team. It wont help that Barry Ferguson will no doubt decide he wants to play against France and mysteriously isnt injured on an international date. When he does the midfield is very often a whole lot less effective than when populated with less lauded but more interested players.
