Pekanbaru, Riau - The Future Sumatra Economy Power (3rd thread)
The previous thread already hit 500 (+2) post counts. So, I decided to open the new thread.
 Umm, right now I still preparing some materials to be posted in the very maiden page of this 3rd thread. The 2nd thread was started by me myself (on June 10th, 2007), while the last reply was posted by Encon (on Sepetember 8th, 2007) 2. Pekanbaru thread is actually 3 months minus 2 days old.  It, is much faster than previous thread which is 4 months PLUS.3. Previous thread got 10,335 hits. 4. Thanx to some of our SSC forumers who has contributed to post in previous thread. And a big thanks for Pekanbaru Flickr, Panoramio, Multiply community, and some blogger, who posted a lot of photos a lot on the internet. Different from the previous thread, I (now once again) focus to Pekanbaru pics only. I only post some photos from Pekanbaru. Some UPDATES about current economical, cultural, and social events held in Pekanbaru will also be posted here.
I try to focus on urban pics, means that City lifestyle, and everything regarded to multi-storey building in Pekanbaru. If possible, I will also post some news with URBAN fabric related.  Pekanbaru is the capital of Riau, a province in Indonesia on the island of Sumatra. It has an area of 446.5 km² and population of over 585,400. Located on the Siak River, which drains to the Strait of Malacca, Pekanbaru has direct access to the busy strait and was long known as a trading port (the city name is derived from Indonesia words of 'new market'). The city is divided into 9 subdistricts (kecamatan). The Sultan Syarif Qasim II International Airport serves Pekanbaru with direct flights to Batam, Jakarta, Malaysia (Malacca and Kuala Lumpur), Singapore and other destinations in Indonesia. A settlement has existed on the city site since the 17th century. In the late 19th century, the city developed to serve the coffee and coal industries, and the Dutch built roads to help ship goods to Singapore and Malacca (now Melaka). After oil was discovered in the region in the 1930s, Pekanbaru's economy has depended heavily on oil revenues and made the city with the highest per capita income in Indonesia.[citation needed] Most of Indonesia's petroleum is produced in Riau, and much of Pekanbaru's economy is based on the petroleum industry. International oil companies, such as Chevron and Caltex, as well as Indonesian companies, have established their offices in the region. The city is connected by road to an oil refining and exporting port at Dumai. Many facilities, including an airport, stadium, swimming pool, and the road to Dumai, were partially financed by oil companies working in the area. Pekanbaru is one of the cleanest big cities in Indonesia[1] and in 2006 received the "Adipura" award ('clean city') in the category of large city, again, for the second consecutive time in 2007. The city is also notable for its wide streets. Pekanbaru regularly suffers, however, from smog due to forest fires, particularly in the dry season. Some tourist attractions in Pekanbaru are the Great Mosque of An-Nur, Alam Mayang Fishing Garden, Sang Nila Utama Museum, Riau Cultural Park, Princess Kaca Mayang Garden, and Sari Valley Artificial Lake. I really expect Pekanbaru to be the leading city in Sumatera or west part of Indonesia rather than Medan or Palembang Medan and Palembang can become very big metropolis in the future as what Jakarta did in the past, .... but the center of future nice living and state of the art civilization will be best if it is Pekanbaru Pekanbaru's position right in the center of Sumatra will be the perfect balance of this island from great urban's economic force in the north (Medan) and another great urban's economic force in the south (Palembang)...btw I also like the city name "PEKANBARU" (=new town) which resemble.... always offer and provide something new HOPEFULLY

I personally, hoping the new Headquarter of Bank Riau (14 storeys) will be realized soon ...And I'm also hoping (deeply) the proposed (29 storeys) Apartment+Hotel THE PEAK PEKANBARU will be realized soon ... Personally, I prefer Pekanbaru tallest building will be "just" 20 storeys.... Because so far, Pekanbaru govt has done very good job preserving some local RIAU MALAY style. It has to be maintained. I prefer Pekanbaru will be "someday" like Kuching in Sarawak ...It is not big, but well-maintained ....But, Pekanbaru population keeps growing .... -_-" ...From only 500 thousand in year 2000 ...Now, it has grown to 717 thousand...... Bandara SSK II Lumpuh ”Runway’’ Rusak, Semua Penerbangan Dialihkan
10 September 2007 Pukul 08:13 Laporan redaksi, Pekanbaru redaksi@riaupos.co.id Landasan pacu (Runway) Bandara Sultan Syarif Kasim II (SSK II) terkelupas sepanjang 2 meter dan lebar 30 sentimeter, Ahad (9/9). Pihak bandara baru mengetahui kondisi ini sekitar pukul 15.00 WIB. Akibatnya, bandara harus ditutup sementara untuk penerbangan selama dua jam. ‘’Untuk mengantisipasi terjadinya hal yang tidak diinginkan, kita mengambil kebijakan untuk menutup bandara sementara,’’ kata Kepala Cabang Angkasa Pura II Bandara SSK II Pekanbaru Muhammad Muslihat kepada Riau Pos. Penutupan bandara ini telah mengakibatkan Sriwijaya Air dengan nomor penerbangan 041 dari Pekanbaru tujuan Jakarta dan Riau Airlines, dari Pekanbaru tujuan Jambi, tertunda. Sedangkan pesawat yang tak bisa mendarat dan dialihkan ke Bandara Hang Nadim Batam adalah Air Asia nomor penerbangan 7432 dari Jakarta, Lion Air 391 dari Batam, Adam Air nomor penerbangan 0256 dari Jakarta, dan Garuda Indonesia dari Singapura. Selama dua jam tersebut, pihak bandara memperbaiki landasan pacu yang rusak. Setelah selesai, sekitar pukul 17.00 WIB penerbangan kembali dibuka. Muhammad Muslihat yang dihubungi mengatakan, sampai saat ini pihaknya tidak mengetahui apa penyebab terkelupasnya landasan pacu tersebut. Pihaknya, kata dia, sampai saat ini masih melakukan penyelidikan. ‘’Aspal landasan pacu terkelupas, kami belum tahu penyebabnya. Sampai saat ini kami masih melakukan penyelidikan. Penerbangan terpaksa ditutup sementara karena dilakukan usaha perbaikan terhadap aspal yang terkelupas, dan alhamdulillah sekitar puku l 17.00 WIB perbaikan selesai dikerjakan,’’ ujarnya. Ia menyebutkan, pada pagi hari aktivitas penerbangan tidak ada kendala, sehingga seluruh aktivitas penerbangan lancar. ‘’Mungkin karena sudah tua dan kontur tanah yang bergelombang bisa saja menyebabkan landasan pacu itu terkelupas, terlebih pesawat-pesawat yang mendarat bebannya sangat berat,’’ ujarnya lagi. Ditambahkannya, kejadian ini sebenarnya sudah pernah terjadi sebelumnya. Akan tetapi lebar dan panjang aspal yang terkelupas tersebut tidak terlalu mengkhawatirkan. Namun, sekarang kerusakannya cukup besar, karenanya kebijakan untuk menutup sementara bandara dilakukan. Tahun ini, lanjutnya lagi, pihaknya akan melakukan upaya-upaya perbaikan terhadap landasan pacu tersebut, akan tetapi perbaikan itu hanya dilakukan pada tempat-tempat tertentu saja dan bukan perbaikan secara menyeluruh. Karena untuk perbaikan menyeluruh itu membutuhkan dana yang tidak sedikit. ‘’Ini kejadian pertama, dimana bandara terpaksa kita tutup sementara. Tahun ini ada rencana kita untuk melakukan perbaikan pada titik-titik tertentu,’’ ujarnya, seraya menyebutkan Bandara SSK II Pekanbaru memiliki panjang landasan pacu 2.240 meter dengan lebar landasan 30 meter. Menunggu Akibat dari penutupan bandara, ribuan penumpang dari berbagai maspakai yang hendak berangkat, terpaksa menunggu sampai bandara kembali dibuka dan penerbangan normal. << serius nih ampe ribuan ??? Pantauan Riau Pos di Bandara SSK II, terlihat di anjungan keberangkatan, para penumpang tidak hanya duduk di bangku, tapi juga duduk di lantai. Untung saja lantainya dilapisi karpet sehingga hal itu tidak terlalu merusak pemandangan. Ramainya penumpang tidak hanya di dalam anjungan keberangkatan tapi juga di luar anjungan, bahkan untuk melintas saja sudah sulit saking ramainya. Halaman parkir bandara pun benar-benar penuh, baik parkir kendaraan roda empat maupun roda dua. Para penjemput keluarga masing-masing menjelang pukul 16.00 WIB telah memenuhi pintu kedatangan hingga areal teras bandara. Umumnya mereka kebingungan, karena tidak mengetahui apa yang telah terjadi. Sesekali pengeras suara hanya mengeluarkan suara bahwa penumpang Merpati tujuan Jakarta keberangkatannya ditunda sampai ada pemberitahuan lebih lanjut. Umumnya orang-orang yang berada di Bandara SSK II mengetahui secara pasti apa penyebab pesawat tidak ada yang mendarat dan berangkat dari pembicaraan dari mulut ke mulut di antara mereka. Salah seorang penumpang Air Asia dari Jakarta, Lily Vianti yang ditemui Riau Pos, mengatakan, sekitar pukul 15.00 WIB pesawat sudah sampai di udara Pekanbaru, namun setelah mendekati landasan pacu, pesawat tidak jadi mendarat, hanya memutar sebanyak dua kali lalu menjauh. Setelah setengah jam, penumpang baru diberi tahu bahwa pesawat terpaksa mendarat di Bandara Hang Nadim Batam karena Bandara SSK II ditutup. Menunggu di Hang Nadim selama 1,5 jam dengan harap cermas, akhirnya Lily dan penumpang lainnya baru bisa berangkat ke Pekanbaru pukul 17.30 WIB dan tiba di Bandara SSK II pukul 18.00 WIB. ‘’Kami tahu landasan pacu Bandara SSK II berlubang besar, itupun tahu dari pembicaraan penumpang lain yang sibuk menelepon keluarga masing-masing,’’ kata Lily. Salah seorang penumpang bernama Herman yang hendak berangkat ke Medan menggunakan pesawat Merpati mengatakan, hal ini seharusnya tidak terjadi jika pihak bandara serius melakukan penanganan. ‘’Ke depan saya harapkan, pembangunan jangan hanya terfokus pada fisik gedung tapi juga landasan pacu dan lainnya,’’ sebutnya, yang mengaku bahwa dirinya menganggap wajar apa yang terjadi. Sementara pengantar keluarga yang hendak berangkat ke Ujung Pandang bernama Anton, benar-benar kecewa karena tidak diberitahukan kepada mereka apa yang terjadi. Seharusnya baik pihak maskapai maupun pihak bandara menginformasikan jadi pihaknya tidak tertanya-tanya. ”Jika diinformasikan dan kita tahu pasti kita akan lega, sehingga tidak perlu lagi panik.” Cukup dengan menunggu dengan tenang, sebutnya sambil berucap bahwa mereka tidak mempermasalahkan kendala yang ada. Beberapa pihak maskapai yang dimintai keterangan memilih diam dan menyerahkan semuanya kepada pihak bandara. Sebab mereka tidak pantas untuk membicarakan apa yang terjadi, termasuk kendala pada penumpang.(*5/mng/men/uli)

06 September 2007 Pukul 13:58 PEKANBARU (RP) - Pemerintah Provinsi (Pemprov) menargetkan dalam pelaksanaanRiau Investment Summit yang akan digelar di Kota Pekanbaru pada tanggal 7-8 November 2007 akan terserap investasi sebesar Rp24 triliun dari 20 proyek yang ditawarkan ke setiap investor yang berasal dari luar dan dalam negeri. Pernyataan ini disampaikan oleh Gubernur Riau HM Rusli Zainal SE MP, kepada Riau Pos, Rabu (5/9) ketika bersama-sama dengan Kapolda Riau Brigjen Sutjiptadi, Danrem 031 Wirabima Letkol Erro Kusnara, Sekdaprov HR Mambang Mit, Walikota Pekanbaru Herman Abdullah serta muspida lainnya melakukan kunjungan ke Kantor Pelayanan Terpadu yang terdapat di Kantor Badan Promosi dan Investasi (BPI) Riau. ‘’Riau Investment Summit dilaksanakan memang memiliki tujuan akhir bagaimana potensi-potensi yang kita miliki dapat dioptimalkan dan dimanfaatkan. Tujuan akhirnya sudah barang tentu untuk kesejahteraan masyarakat Riau,’’ ujar Rusli. Adapun 20 proyek yang akan ditawarkan kepada investor tersebut adalah proyek fisik seperti pembangunan jalan tol Dumai-Pekanbaru, sumberdaya batubara, potensi ketenagalistrikan dan potensi lainnya. ‘’Kita telah melakukan koordinasi dengan sejumlah Duta Besar negara sahabat yang berkantor di Jakarta. Dilanjutkan Gubri, ini bagian dari tindaklanjut pertemuan Pemprov Riau dengan beberapa duta besar yang ada di Jakarta kemarin.
