Victoria Tower | 117.47 m | 33fl | Com

Victoria Tower

117m
33fl
Start 2009-11-05
Completion 2011

2009-11-05:
Official start of construction ceremony held and this press-release sent out by the City:
http://stockholm.se/-/Nyheter/Bygga-...rande-byggnad/

Architect's website with height numbers.

Older:
Link to protocol of Exploteringsnämnden's (yup, it means ~"exploitation-board". not a very nice name in Swedish either) meeting wherein the project was approved:
http://www.insyn.stockholm.se/exploa...&nodeid=324294
If City parliament to reject what the Exploateringsmänd has approved it would be extremely unusual as all the parties voted for it.

Quote from the main investor:
my translation:
"But the building is dimensioned so that it can be extended by another 54 meters..."
So it might reach 174m in the future

Old version had mostly hotel but also 10fl offices and a bar up top! Status of this not known in this latest version.

This one is a hotel tower about 10km from the Central Station, out here in my suburban burough of Kista. It'll be part of the new KistaMässan convention/exhibition center, but is a separate project from it even thought they'll be physically connected, it looks like. I guess they split things up so if one got held up the other could go ahead without waiting.
here's a map of part of Kista, with other highrise-plans marked. The Victoria Tower is the light blue one on the right.

A previous version was at 140m going to be Stockholm's tallest, and construction was supposed to start in 2008 but with the economic crash the plans are now on hold waiting for things to turn upwards. Considering the location and financial/political backing for it I'd be surprised if it, or a close variant, didn't get built eventually.

Latest version:

That render is old though, the new one should be a coule of floors taller.
I heard from Anders (Khaan) that the "wings" were to be removed from the proposal as it was not really cost-effective... does anyone have any additional info on that?

A plain glass box? not a good idea IMO. At least give it some assymetri.

I like the design. Radical enough but not too radical.

I totally forgot about this project. I thougth that it would never amount to anything, but really great to see that it still lives, and know more than ever. Maybe the Kista area can finally become the 'skyline area', that we all talked about all those years ago, before the Baltic states took over.
