Cool. Bahir Dar is actually sharing in the construction boom in Ethiopia but
maybe not as large a boom as Addis Ababa. It often doesnt get mentioned how
quickly the city is growing now..but is growing fast.

Great pictures. Ill see if I can find any also.

Very nice, although I had been aware of the beauty of the falls but unaware of the city. The city appears quite nice, recent development occurring also. The development boom seems nation wide in Ethiopia, multiple cities.

Haile selassie had once proposed to move the capital from Addis Ababa to Bahir dar. I prefer Bahir dar as the capital but now it's to late. And the boom hasn't reached out yet in my opinion.

Bahir Dar is much smaller in comparison than Addis Ababa, however on a very unique geographical location. Realistically speaking, we are seeing development occurring in Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar and also Mek'ele. I would like to see more of Mek'ele though, I have a thread dedicated to that city too.

It's hard to get pictures of Mekelle.

But since the goverment of Ethiopia give priority to that city, more developments will of course take place in that city for sure. And pictures will also pop up

The city is better then i thought, Ill swing by on my perennially delayed trip to ethiopia. One thing I dont like is it being called Amhara state. I dont like nor accept the Ethnic federations . Bahar Dar is in Gojam not amhara. No one would ever say Im from Amhara, they would say, Im from Gojam. Politics aside, great pictures.

- What happened to the falls, they were spectacular? I think that they damed the river for electricity, which still does not explain why the river is so thin.

-Bahar dar is a much better city then Addis ababa. Its clean and less crowded. The city can grow smart and not chaotic like Addis is. I would not mind living on one of those Islands on Lake tana or at least living by the beach. This area definetly deserves more attention then it is being given. Ethiopian governments always have an obsession with addis which does not leave the other cities with much.

yeah I think you are correct Tarrex. Bahir Dar is only begining it growth..it hasnt been as quick
as Addis to capitalize on it, but it is catching up.

The falls are small because the river is damed. They release the full force of the water once a month and the falls then swell up to their natural state. Terrible planning of course.

As for development, I've heard nothing but good things. One of my best friends went there about a year and a half ago and told me there is a serious construction boom, much much more than heard about.

I've never been there, but I've heard it called the most beautiful city in Ethiopia.

That last picture with the palm trees tells me it's probably true!
