A1 motorway

Currently, the A1 (Autostrada A1 ) is a 127-kilometer motorway linking Bucharest, the capital of Romania, with Piteşti, a city in Argeş County. The A1 was the first freeway to be built in Romania, constructed in the 1960s during the Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej communist regime and upgraded in 2000.

The motorway is to be expanded to 620 km by 2014, connecting the capital city of Bucharest to the Banat region in western Romania and furthermore to central european motorway system.

As of 2008 only Bucharest-Pitesti section is operational:

FCC/Astaldi to build Constanta's motorway ringroad

The ringroad will cost 121 million, works will start next year and completion will be in 2012.

Quote:

Here's the Bulgarian planned Motorways by 2020. They have 4 border points with Romania covered by motorways. AFAIK, only 2 are currently planned by the Governement: Giurgiu and maybe the Black Sea connection. Are there any plans for the other 2?

OH, yeah, I remember now: there are plans for this, but only after 2015:

C'mon, Bucharest - Giurgiu is far for being a motorway. There are lot's of roundabouts even intersections not to mention that aren't any exitways.
Is just a good expressway and that's it. And I doubt it can be ever turned into a motorway.

Sure, but AFAIK, there has to be a motorway from Bucharest to Giurgiu by 2015.

I just visited the "Hungarian motorways" link from RawLee's signature.
Wow, you have a lot of motorways, with a good coverage of the country, and links to most of your neighbours.
I can only dream about having something similar in Romania

What's the distance(in time - hours) between Budapest and Vienna/Wien by car?

The connection of M49 at Petea will be with the expressway Petea-Satu Mare-Baia Mare which is in Project phase.
Hungary indeed has an extended network of motorways or u/c motorways but for example the connection on railway at Lokoshaza is not a priority (they focused on roads but somehow neglected railways-we will have in 2 years about 400 km of upgraded line at aprox 160kmh)

And RawLee can u tell us how many kms of motorway hungary had in 1990 to make a comparison

I just believe that everything should be discussed in its respective thread...in this case, even the subforum was wrong. I dont mind talking about it,but to hijack your thread...

You haven't hijacked the Romanian thread, don't worry. We are neighbours and are interested in the motorway developments at the border.

BTW: the current gov's priority is to link Romania to Hungary by motorways. Hope the following one will speed up the priority.

BTW,I've just noticed a 4th connection on a very-very vague "map"...but the plans I've found for it only last until Békéscsaba...but sources suggest that it will cross border(if ever will) around Gyula/Zerind...its designated M44 here...
