Master plan for Multan uplift

MULTAN: District Nazim Faisal Mukhtar has said the City District Government Multan (CDGM) has launched a 20-year master plan for the development and beautification of Multan.

Addressing a meeting the district nazim apprised the meeting that Nespak had evolved a short-term plan for this purpose with the help of satellite-taken maps and the same would be presented before the city district government Multan soon so that the project could be started in new fiscal year.

The city nazim said the Nespak had been directed to evolve a plan quickly for the execution of Multan Package announced by the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani under the 20-year plan. On the occasion, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Fazeel Asghar asked the officials concerned to keep the prime minister's package in view before chalking out the future plan. He asked the Nespak to include Multan Education city project in the master plan so that the science and technology university, Women University, Cadet College and Degree Colleges could be established in the same vicinity.

Speaking on the occasion Khawaja Jalal-ud-Deen Roomi, president Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) hailed the CDGM's efforts for implementing ban on establishment of industries in residential areas. He demanded of the government to include the uplift project of Industrial Estate in the master planner.

Traders protest long-hour power cuts: The local business community staged a protest demonstration against the unscheduled load-shedding of 10 to 14 hours and condemned the Mepco management for its failure to ensure smooth flow of power supply.

I agree! WTF is wrong with you people??? Being positive isn't a sin! And just because you don't like the fact that Mushy's party lost in the election and that YOUSAF GILLANI is the Prime Minister, that doesn't mean that you guys start becoming all negative all of a sudden. Had someone said that Multan will boom under Musharraf's or Shaukat Aziz's leadership, the responses would have been a 100% different!

‘Lal Sohanra Park to be upgraded’

BAHAWALPUR, July 15: The Lal Sohanra Park will be upgraded to an international standard park to make it safe haven for wildlife and attractive for local and foreign tourists, MPA Zulfiqar Ali said while speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday.

The MPA said the step was being taken after reports emerged that the national park was being neglected and it also lacked necessary facilities for visitors and tourists.

He said immediate measures should be taken to preserve the wildlife, its breeding and promotion along with the preservation of environment.

In addition, he said the wood of Lal Sohanra forest should be utilised to set up a paper mills, as raw material was available in abundance there.

He said that during last Punjab Assembly session, he had also presented this proposal to the government, as the establishment of the paper mills would provide employment opportunities to the youth.

He said that Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif during his recent tour to the city also wanted visiting Lal Sohanra Park but due to indisposition, he could not attend the briefing of the tourism department at the park.

The MPA said that had the CM visited the park, paper mills proposal could have been given due consideration beside other decisions to improve the park’s affairs. He hoped that during the next visit, the CM would be able to give some time to examine various proposals aimed at improving the park’s image.

MPA Ali said that since the Bahawalpur region was a wheat and cotton-growing area, an industrial zone with exclusively agro-based industrial concerns should be established here to promote agricultural industry and eliminate unemployment.

He said civic facilities in the city would be improved besides revamping the Bahawal Victoria Hospital to accommodate maximum number of patients.

He assured that the institute of neuro-sciences would be brought back to Bahawalpur from Lahore.

Rs2.15bn MDA budget approved

MULTAN, July 24: The Multan Development Authority’s governing body on Thursday approved Rs2.15 billion budget for the authority and Rs1.17 billion budget for Wasa for the fiscal year 2008-09.

The budget meeting, presided over by MDA Chairman Mian Faisal Mukhtar, decided to begin work on feasibility report for a housing project.

The MDA governing body has approved 20 per cent increase in the salaries and pensions of the authority employees and increased the advertisement amount for the authority’s director general from Rs50,000 to Rs100,000. However, the governing body refused to give concessions to 134 allottees of Fatima Jinnah Town who did not pay their three installments at a time. It allowed MDA employees to pay their amount in 16 installments for plots at the same colony.

It was decided at the meeting that the city district government would pay Rs68.7 million for sewerage, parks and gardens.

City District Nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar said MDA and Wasa would not allow diversion of even a single penny from development funds to ward non-development projects. He said Wasa was facing a deficit of Rs110 million and the newly formed recovery wing of Wasa would fail to meet its target.

He said that according to the initial estimate Rs3 billion would be spent on the construction of northern bypass and Rs1.78 on the construction of southern bypass.

MDA Director General Tassaduq Hussain Bokhari said the Musa Pak Housing Scheme would be a joint venture of public and private sectors on an area of 300 to 1,000 acres.
