The City Of Liverpool Cruise Liner Terminal

After years of planning, in-fighting and nail biting , on 9th. September 2007 , the CLF greeted its first customer. The trials and tribulations of this vital piece of infrastructure have been well documented on the Construction Thread, so this new thread is a " live archive" recording all arrivals since that momentous day last September

CLF was a hive of activity during August 07, work was in progress right up to the first vessel berthing..............

Aerial view of CLF Photo: Jefferson Air from Kings Waterfront site.

The FIRST Cruise Ship arrives with escort tugs giving the traditional salute...

10th. September 07, Deutschland arrives.......

21st. September 07, QE2 arrives in the river for the official opening of the CLF...
.

16th. November 07, a surprise visitor and first " Tall Ship" to berth at the CLF, Sail Training Vessel, Lord Nelson...........

This "little baby" deserves 3 photo`s, HMS Ark Royal- Flag Ship of the Royal Navy......
This superb photo by Kennyrouge is my favorite CLF shot .........

And so does this, the largest Liner , 110,000 tons, ever to have sailed up the Mersey..........

Without these Guys, no Cruise liners would enter the Mersey, the Liverpool Pilots do a fanastic job ensuring that ALL shipping berth safely , the CLF is their home ........

Still on safety matters, Marine Fire Rescue craft, keep a watchful eye on the CLF..........

Grand Princess , on her second visit in 4 weeks, greets the " Round the World Clippers", they had just crossed the finishing line having completed 35,000 miles with New York the winner and Liverpool 08 coming in 5th...............

11th. July 08,Cruise Liner Prinsendam berths for the first time ................

16th July 08, RFA Lyme Bay arrives for the Tall Ships Race.......

20th July 08,the Crystal Symphony should have been our 6th Cruise liner this summer to have berthed at the CLF, but the RFA Lyme Bay beat her to the punch . So she was moored in mid-river, but I have included her on this archive just to ensure that ALL visitors are duly recorded..........

26th. July 08, After the excitement of the Tall Ships ,normal service was resumed with the arrival of Cruise liner Maasdam........
.

29th. July 08, On her third visit in seven weeks, the Grand Princess is a very welcome regular...................

19th. August 08, First time visitor, German owned Delphin Voyager...........

22nd August 08, A very familiar ship on her fourth visit since June, the Grand Princess, bringing over 2,500 visitors for a days site seeing/shopping...

September 08, A number of Royal Navy ships are due to call at the CLF in the next few weeks, the first HMS Albion berthed on 5th. Sept 08, around the same time as La Machine was waking up just down the waterfront at Kings Dock.............

12th September 08, HMS Manchester arrives for a four day visit..................

23rd September 08, The prestigious Seabourn Pride berths carrying 90 passengers on a Transatlantic cruise, all the passengers enjoyed a traditional English afternoon tea in the splendid surroundings of the Palm House in Sefton Park, were they were welcomed by Lord Mayor Steve Rotheram...........

3rd. October 08, the Mersey welcomes the majestic QE2.
This is the grand old lady`s 9th.and final visit to Liverpool, before she retires to the warm waters of Dubai...............

Farewell QE2, and in October 09 we will welcome QM2.

12th. October 08, Fred Olsen Cruise line Balmoral arrives at CLF.....

17th. October 08, HMS Illustrious arrives in the river for a three day visit, her sister ship HMS Ark Royal was in port back in June, but "Lusty" arrives today with a deck full of "boyz toyz", Harrier Jets....

22nd. October 08, un-identified Royal Navy ship arrives at CLF. It could be a River Class from the Fisheries Protection Squadron ?

Thanks to Mandykore it has been confirmed as P282 HMS Severn, this vessel first visited the CLF back in February, as Kennyrouge`s photo shows.

The City Of Liverpool Cruise Liner Facility has only been operating 14 months, but in that time SECURITY and SAFETY have been enhanced by the introduction of new patrol craft.................

Mersey Marine Rescue Unit in 2007..........

New Fast Marine Rescue Unit for 2008
.........

A new second Rescue unit also on call to the CLF.........

A fine thread, Woody.

Just for general information the MS Prinsendam at 674 foot long is due in Liverpool on the 11th July and the Crystal Symphony at 781 feet long is due in on the 20th July. At a quite impressive 720 feet the MS Maasdam is here on the 26th July. Not forgetting that the Grand Princess is visiting on the 5th and 29th July AND also on the 22nd of August.

Of course not to be missed is the final voyage of the QEII who comes to our fair city on the 3rd of October.

And the "Lanny" (Landing Stage") is fast becoming blase again. Love it.

Aye, but you're in a league of your own Wooly.

For the life of me, I can't remember taking that pic. It's been that long since I actually owned a camera.

Fantastic, absolutely brilliant, I had no idea such large ships could dock at Pier Head. This is brilliant for Liverpool.

The City of Liverpool Cruise Liner facility can handle the largest cruise liners in the world. It is rumoured that Queen Mary 2 will berth at the stage next year. Grand Princess is not the biggest ship to enter the Mersey, I believe that honour goes to a tanker at the Tranmere oil terminal.
