Ministery of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture | PRO
Doha may soon get cactus-shaped building
Souce: The Peninsula DOHA • A building with a unique design may soon stand out on Doha skyline. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning is considering the design of a huge cactus-shaped building for its new office complex. The energy-efficient 'Green Building' design has been submitted by the Bangkok-based Aesthetic Architects GO Group, which is known for its innovative urban design and execution of a slew of energy-saving buildings across the world. The Aesthetic Architects was recently in the news for designing a H2O floating resort in Thailand. The cactus-shaped building has a botanic dome inside. The building has been designed in a way how a cactus can survive in the desert. It's sunshade panels will open and close spasmodically depending on the sun's intensity. The multi-storey building will be strictly adhering to the global 'Green Building' norms. In a bid to reduce the country's high rate of carbon footprint, Qatar has already drawn up a project to build more energy saving ‘Green Buildings’. The country's first such building complex is fast progressing at its Energy City Qatar (ECQ). The first phase of this multi-billion dollar project is expected to be completed by next year. Qatar's Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), which was recently brought under the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, is strongly advocating the builders to go for Green Buildings, which is expected to reduce the power consumption rate by 20 percent to 30 percent against the normal construction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The pictures were from the developer's site. Seems to me like its 18 floors high, which is not that bad, and will fit perfectly in the Cornish, as this building has a nature theme to it.

Minister of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture
![]() The Minister of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture (MMAA) in Qatar is getting a brand new office building that takes the form of a towering cactus. Designed by Bangkok-based Aesthetics Architects, the modern office and adjoining botanical dome take cues from cacti and the way that they successfully survive in hot, dry environments. ![]() ![]() Qatar is fairly barren, covered by sand, and receives and average annual rainfall of 3.2 inches. Since Qatar has the highest GDP in the world, they can afford to construct spectacular buildings that can be very efficient in the hot desert environment. Aesthetics Architects GO Group decided to model the MMA’s new office upon the cactus, taking inspiration from the way these plants deal with the scorching desert climate. ![]()
