Angola National fottball Team World Cup 2006

Quote:
Pedro Manuel Torres (born March 18, 1982 in Huambo), is an Angolan football player, who is better known as Mantorras. He currently plays for Benfica, from Lisbon. He has drawn comparisons to Eusébio, another player from lusophone Africa (in this case Mozambique) who played for Benfica in the 1960´s.

Mantorras joined Benfica in 2001 after a great season in Alverca FC. In 2002, Mantorras suffered a serious knee injury, that almost put an end to his career. Fortunately, after two years of hard and painful recovery, he returned to the field to help Benfica win the 2004/05 Superliga.

He was one of the best players in the Angolan National Team that was the first ever African Portuguese-speaking country to qualify for the World Cup, in 2006.

Benfica's highly-rated Angolan striker Pedro Mantorras obviously is not one to forget his roots.

Mantorras has already been described as the best player to come out of Portuguese-speaking Africa since Eusébio left Mozambique for Benfica in the early 1960s
. Success-starved Benfica fans would not find such comparisons too fanciful. They fell in love with Mantorras as soon as they saw him turn on the style in pre-season. Eusébio himself says of the youngster: 'He has special qualities and is set for a great future.'

Quote:
Manuel Rui Marques (born 3 September 1977, also known as Rui Manuel Marques) is an Angolan footballer player from Luanda, Angola but he moved to Portugal as a child because of the war. He is currently playing for Leeds United. He plays as a defender.

Marques began professionly in Germany's SSV Ulm 1846 in the 1999-2000 season but then moved to Herta Berlin in Berlin, Germany's capital and one of their top clubs.

Marques then moved to VfB Stuttgart where he played four seasons at the German club. In the 2004-05 season he moved to CS Marítimo of Madeira, Portugal. After struggling to break into the first team, Marques was subsequently released by Marítimo after just one season and in the 2005-06 season Marques moved to Leeds United in England on a Bosman transfer[1]. Marques made one appearance for Leeds in the 2005-06 season in the Carling Cup against Oldham, in which he was clearly very nervous and uncomfortable playing at right-back, Marques did not feature again for Leeds that season and at the end of 2005-06 he went to Hull City on a short-term loan[2], which was cut short due to injury.

The 2006-07 campaign again saw Marques over-looked by manager Kevin Blackwell, and again by the new Leeds manager Dennis Wise, who made it clear Marques would not feature under his leadership and was told he was free to leave the club[3], along with a number of other squad and fringe players. However, Marques has never once complained about his isolation from the first team and has worked hard to try and prove himself, being included in a number of different match-day squad listings and on a couple of occasions making the substitutes bench.

Marques' hard-work and persistence was rewarded when he was called up to the first team squad for Leeds United's 2-1 victory against Coventry City on 1 January 2007, where he turned in a very solid performance at centre back. This performance saw Marques being rewarded with a long run in the starting lineup at Elland Road. Marques stated that he would prefer to concentrate on Leeds' relegation battle than signing a new deal. He was an instant hit with the fans, who dubbed him a "Sex machine".[4]. However, Leeds were relegated to League One, but Marques showed his commitment to the club and signed a new deal on the 7th August 2007. Marques is now a regular in the first team and scored his first goal for the Elland Road outfit on 18 August 2007 in the 4-1 drubbing of Southend United in the dying minutes of the match.

Fabrice Alcebiades Maieco, better known as Akwá (born 30 May 1977 in Benguela), is a professional football striker from Angola with Atlético Petróleos Luanda. He played in Portugal for Alverca and Benfica, and in Qatar for club side Al Wakra and Al Gharafa. Akwa captains the national side and was selected for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, despite then being without a club. He has 80 caps and 36 goals for Angola as of June 2006. In his home country of Angola, Akwa is thought of as the elite sports icon, almost as Americans would view athletes like Michael Jordan or Peyton Manning. In June 2007, Akwá signed with the home squad Petro Atlético Luanda.

He scored the winning goal against the Nigeria national team in qualifying in June 20, 2004.

His most recent success came when, in a game of Pro Evo doubles at the House of Trouser, Bristol, Akwá (representing Chaz and Heyward) popped up to score the winner against Saudi Arabia (Alex and Jamie). Good times.

Akwá has a brother, Rasca, who is a professional football player for Petro Atlético Luanda.

Hard-fought match makes Title victory sweeter

5.08.2007

Luanda - The Cameroon side insisted on playing on the inside where its players were clearly stronger and even on the attack they gained rebounds from the shorter Angolan centres, ending with 34 rebounds won against 20 by the hosts. This was the weakest point of the national side. This was the last time the match stood evening: 29 points each. At the end of the first half the result stood at 33-31.

The attempts to bring on younger players didn’t work and the Angolan coach turned back to experience. In the third quarter, with a mix of age and youth on the court, the team played its strong suit, a defence creating more pressure which unnerved the Cameroons and forced them to lose successive attacks.

A three-pointer by Eduardo Mingas – one of the highlights of the final – made the score 41-34 eight minutes from the end of the period. Lutonda came back on the court at 3:38 as well as Carlos Almeida and Victor de Carvalho.

This gave Angola a 20-point lead two minutes from the end of the period but their opponents’ deficit fell to 16 points by the end (67-51). But this was the most productive performance of the hosts despite a technical foul by the coach the lead was 11 points and the lack of blocks after throws.

The fourth period started with the fourth foul by Carlos Almeida with the lead being cut to 13 points with a three-pointer. Then Cipriano committed his fourth foul nine minutes from the end.

The difference in scores continued to fall. But Angola “sped ahead” again to 73- 56 at six minutes. And a good defence brought about a dispossession. As the match went on, the Cameroons began to get more physical as this was their strength. But a smash by Morais astounded Cidadela and the crowd went wild. It was a great relief in the face of pressure from an opponent which showed quality and never stopped fighting.

4:46 from the end Carlos Almeida converted a three-pointer and stretched the lead to 16 points (78-62).

However, with the pressure by the Cameroons, the Angolans made successive fouls and with the free throws the lead was cut to 78-66 3:18 from the end. The coach Ginguba asked for a time out 02:45 from the end but with under two minutes to go the lead had been cut to only 78-68.

Lutonda came back on and the ball kept going his way. In trying to stop him his main marker went too far and used foul language to the referee who penalised him for unsportsmanlike conduct, this being vital for the final result of the match with only 10 points in it.

With around a minute to play there was a substitution which will go down in history: Lutonda made way for Luís Costa. It was the hotshot’s last game and he has not retired from the national team.

His replacement scored his only two points and the last points of the final (86-72), confirming the ninth title and the fifth consecutive presence at the Olympics, records in basketball.

agostinho What a pity, he was still so young and had a whole life before him! That´s so unfair

If you have more information about him, please place it here.

And skytrax you know more about Angolan sports than me, so please help to add some information, please!

I tried to keep it as broad as possible, covering football, basketball, motorbikes, car racing and swimming.

What about martial arts? Sailing? etc?

You should use JPG, or BMP ideally. PNG files are supported to.

Do I have to work with copy-paste function?.

1.) I clicked on the image that I found when it shows "copy grahic"

2.) Then I copied the link into the bracket below the indication "url"

look like this: http://www.imageshack.us/transload.php

3.) Then I just pressed the button "host it".

So in short:

You should save the pictures to your hard drive-remember where (what folder, etc, ) you saved them. Then go to imageshack, click 'browse" find the picture, select it, and then click "host it".
The best way to do it and make sure it works-upload it straight from your computer. The key is to remember where you save all your pictures.

To place the info/pic here, use this button...

hope it is showing up

Hope that I have been of help, looking forward to your contribution!

David Samuel Rebelo, nascido a 27/09/83, Angolano.

Anyway, here is some more good news. An Angolan has won silver in Paraolympic Games in Beijing
