As a former resident of the West's great city (!), feel free to add all ongoing and proposed developments here....

Cool

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more mention about the major developments that have transformed Limerick in recent years. My two favourite high rises in the country for instance- Riverpoint and the Clarion. Both look great by the Shannon! There's another fairly tall one on the way into the city from Dublin, anyone know what it is? Sorry I've no pics. The new Marriott also looks great. I visited the city recently and couldn't get over the change.

And let's not forget about the new Thomond Park stadium of course!

Welcome Viking!

I don't think there are any Limerick posters yet and that's the problem rather then the lack of what is going on. There is alot going on in Limerick. I will see if I can dig some of it up!

+1 on the stadium btw.

I was recently in Limerick for the first time,I have to say city centre left me with not a very good impression, alot of storefronts were empty.Looks rundown.

It's always been quite a poor city in comparison to the others. It was improving but has been hit by recession particularly badly. Having said that large rejuvenation projects have just got underway and the water front has improved immensely in recent years. Pitty there are no posters from Limerick to update this thread. I have never been there so don't really know it.

I do they are building new motorways and rail lines down there though.

Couple of pics

They have the Shannon aswell which is majestic at that location.

Thomand park has to be mentioned I think. A fantastic piece of architecture on the Caherdavin side of the City. The Crecent shopping centre and county bulidings were renovated a few years ago also. There are plans to build a shopping complex in the city centre replacing the old Dunnes Stores. Many streets have been pedestrianised which makes the centre look more friendly ie cruises street.

On the Raheen side there is the office buildings outside the industrial estate which looks rather impressive. Heres a pic of thomand park

thought id post some pics of the recently pedestrianised streets in the city centre; the city centre will eventually be fully pedestrianised and have an outer orbital route for traffic

I think I speak for everyone in Limerick when I say I hope its not built. as it stands, Limerick city centre is a ghost town, there are streets that are actually closed down as all the retail units are gone from it.

because the city boundary is so small, county Limerick and county clare is where all the major suburbs are and because they are so big (between 20-30,000), they act as towns like blanchardstown/tallaght act to dublin, where there are so many shopping centres there, that there is no need to go to town anymore which is such a shame.

these are some of the retail parks and shopping centres that are not in the city boundary and in County Limerick

coonagh cross shopping centre

jetland shopping centre

childers road retail park

parkway retail park

parkpoint retail park

delta retail park (couldnt find pic)

city east retail park

parkway valley (second biggest in country but on hold)

parkway shopping centre

roxboro shopping centre (cant find any pics)

castletroy shopping centre

the crescent shopping centre (biggest in Munster)

theres still more retail parks, all outside the city boundary, pulling the crowd from town..not right for a city with only 100,000!

It looks like a beautiful place Limerick; I went to Ireland a few months ago, but in Dublin they told me that it was very very unsafe and with highs levels of crime in the city.

Now I realize that I should not heed those "warnings".

I would like to know if that recommendations were true or false.

I am from Costa Rica and let me tell you have a very nice and beautiful country, full of nice and helpfull people. Just let me know if comming to this side of the world: mi casa es su casa!
