Make Pen Albert Embankment Fin Tower

Make Architects has designed this new curving blade-like building to stand on the south bank of the River Thames on the eastern end of London's Albert Embankment near Vauxhall.

Sited at 38-46 Albert Embankment, the proposals for OKTIS Holdings feature a lone 23 storey tower with a height of 75 metres, with the bulk of the scheme from the 3rd to 21st floors having a total of 165 apartments.

Also included in the development is 225 square metres of retail space on ground level adjacent to the Albert Embankment, and 1,679 square metres of space for either flexible offices or a gym on the first and second floors.

The building is set on a north south axis and resembles that of a fishes fin. With a concrete structure throughout it will feature aluminium panels with the windows arranged in a series of arcs that will create patterns when the light hits them.

Outside space for residents is provided in the forms of balconies that are located on the north and south edges of the building. These also help create natural solar shading for the south facing flats.

If approved by the authorities in London the scheme will represent another of what promises to be a rapidly growing cluster in that area. Other schemes nearby include St George Wharf, Vauxhall Sky Gardens and a trio of Norman Foster designed towers at Hampton House.

It's beginning to look like the much anticipated cluster for Vauxhall is finally going to emerge.

Lol interesting to see this site back in play. They always seem to miss the best time to construct. This is an earlier scheme for the same location by Lorenzo Apicella which won pp a good few years ago but was never built - a nice design with a detached stair tower that would have made a strong landmark for traffic coming up from Vauxhall.

The Make design is slightly reminiscent in shape of Crown Place, which can only be a good thing.

Lambeth' planning office has recommend this is refused permission for the following reasons.

Inadequate s106 contribution, unacceptable loss of daylight to neighbouring properties,substandard level of residential accommodation and a few other reasons.

However the council could ignore the advice & approve it anyway.

Yes I think the neighbouring block on the riverside is home to one Jeffrey Archer amongst others, so quite vociferous neighbours no doubt.

I think it could be a bit braver with some colour other than the steel metal. Nice design though. I will even say it should be a little bit taller, but still keeping itself as a step up to the main Vauxhall cluster.

We need to banish Foster to Canary Wharf and let MAKE take the stage.

I've liked every single design by them that I've seen. Foster & Partners really seem to be losing their touch in comparison.

The designs for the cladding on this look great.

I have to say just adding colour could make this building look cheap and nasty, I quiet like it and the balconys make so much sense, in regard to the view. The Albert Embankment has such a lot of potential as a high end residential area and quality is the key in making this happen otherwise we will have st georges wharf all over again.

yea ... Archer lives in the top floor penthouse. There are, I'm told, other notables living in that block. This will never get through because of that. It would completely shade their building from southern sunlight.

It works well on this part of the river bank and looks detailed too. Make should done what Foster's done to London 5-10 years ago!

I like it, it breaks this rather monotonous part of the river front. Closer, the cladding looks very detailed.
