the original design was better and it seems it was taller... anyway, it's a good building

The original plan fell victim to the airport height controls (the same situation as Sama Tower). Yeah, this one's going to be very boxy indeed and the rendering looks a bit like a dog's breakfast. They've varied the fenestration and facading to try and break it up, although the success of this design tactic won't be seen until it's largely completed. I doubt this building will appear on anyone's "best in SZR" list.

A count of the floors in the green section gives 50-51. Fortunately perhaps from some angles the building will be hidden by the much sharper and more elegant Capital Towers (40 storeys, 160m, 525').

Thanks once again to Stephan for creating the thread in this section.

Looks... interesting. In the initial renders...
I won't judge until I see some more photos though.

At least Sama Tower's design wasn't changed

hmm like the design of the original better. Second one is ok, just looks a little too much like someone got crazy with the loft command

You can see on that pic that DCC has started putting back the formwork on the central core.

Dubai Contracting Company LLC (DCC) is fast-tracking the $194m Burj Al Salam mixed-use project at No. 1 Sheikh Zayed Road, next to the Monarch Hotel, for a November 2012 delivery.

“DCC took over the mixed-use development project from another contractor in November 2010, and is committed to a very tight schedule to complete what is essentially three towers in the space of one,” comments construction manager Hatem Al-biss.
