This thread is for discussion on the project that are on our XL server, like the rating of the daily banner, guessing the height of the Burj Dubai tower and Guess the City satellite edition.

How do you guess a country only? Do you have to guess a city?

Yes, the input has to be a of a CC-SCX- format, where CC is country code and SCX is city code. This is the only way to make people enter the proper city. If you want to insert just the United States as a country, select just any american city.

I selected Boston and got two options.

I chose BOS, coz I'm guessing the bigger Boston would get the better acronym.

As for Burj's height down to a centimeter, how's that done? Such precise height would be greatly affected by the ambient temp. So do the rules specify the temp. at which the height is taken?

I uploaded the UN/Locode table of cities into the database, that's about 65,000 city names in there. Especially the US has a habit of having at least 2 cities for every name to it. When preparing the images, I make sure there can be no doubt about the city that is being displayed. In this case, either Boston would have been wrong.

Good point, but the number that is being presented at the time of the official opening is what we will work by.

For today's contest, there seems to be a problem. If you give the precise location, the eighth word of the answer given as correct, it's accepted as a valid city name but you receive 0 points.

^ I just tested it on the March 31 pic and it gave me three proper points (see standings). Ar you on April 1 already? Also, what do you mean by 'the eight word'. PM me what answer you are trying to input.

Under "Daily Satellite" change todays image to today's image. Minor typo, nothing serious.
