Cool Top 5 best looking airliners!

What are everyone’s top 5 best looking commercial airliners? I know this isn’t exactly military aviation, but I thought it would be fun and I didn’t know where else to put it.

1 – Vickers Super VC10

2 – Convair 990 (looks like it could be a bomber)

3 – Hawker Siddeley Trident 3 (great arrangement of 4 engines)

4 – Lockheed Super Constellation

5 - Tupolev Tu-154

Mentions to the Bristol Britannia, DH.91 Albatross, DH.89 Dragon Rapide, Ilyushin Il-62, Concorde, Boeing 757-300, Airbus A321 and Boeing 767-300/400.

1. Concorde - flying sex?

2. Comet

3. BAe 146

4. Tristar

5. Sukhoi Superjet - Yes it's Russian, but there's something about it I find excellent

I also forgot to mention the Sud SE-210 Caravelle, with its triangular windows!

TallBox, you sound like a man who likes tri-jets! Do you also like T-tails?

Anyway, always preferred the 767 over the 777, and A330/A340s over the 777 too. I just don’t like the A380 – to me it doesn’t look right. A bit like the A318, which has to be the most out of proportion aircraft flying – its back end is too big.

Airbus' best looking aircraft is the A321. No question (especially in the Lufthansa retro design). I'm with Sydney Camm - if it looks right, it'll fly right. With his work on the Hawker Hunter, he should know.

Easily the best looking paint job goes to Lufthansa and their 'retro' jet. It's just first class.

Which you can now buy in 1/144 kit form (i'm a 1/72 man myself).

A340-500 (cos i prefer the look of the RR Trent engines to the nacelled-CFMs)
DC-10
Tristar
Concorde
Comet
Il-96
B747-400

I'd also like to throw these into the mix:

I love the image of the Boeing 314 'Clippers' which were so advanced and glamorous for their time, introduced in such an exciting era for travel. They offered the first scheduled trans-atlantic services in 1939 as well as trans-Pacific services, and were the last word in luxury travel. Their premature retirment in 1946 was only due to the rapid advance of larger land based airliners.

They were operated by BOAC as well as PanAm.

The British equivalent at that time was the Short Empire flying boats, which were more succesful commercially with a much larger number built. These were all operated originally by Imperial Airways, later with BOAC and Quantas, and they helped to link the various outposts of the British Empire in the 1930s/40s.

Not the most elegant looking aircraft ever built, but clearly effective and advanced for their time. The last two images shows one comandered for war time use, and the basic design was developed into the famous Short Sunderland.
