Kasai Occidental: Local rice better sold than imported rice.

Since 2007, local rice now produced in quantity in the hinterlands, is experiencing successful in Kasai Occidental. 80 percent of households in Kananga prefer it than imported rice sold expensively and tasteless.

The markets of Kananga, Kasai Occidental, are now flooded with varieties of local rice as Mandefu, Menga, Sipi and Jasmine and so on.

This is the result of awareness campaign conducted for 2 years and a half to farmers through local and international NGOs that promote food security.

The objective was to convince the people of Kasaï to cultivate their own rice, whereas the product was previously imported on a large scale. Now, vendors praise the quality of their rice.

The agencies fighting hunger and poverty have brought new planting techniques that help today’s farmers improve their production: sowing online, for example, or the use of a number of seeds per poquet (5 to 8). Marshes and savannas have become ideal places for growing rice.

The new technique of "green revolution", which uses premature dwarf varieties to accelerate growth and to make profitable production, is also experiencing a good success.

For Maurice Kapuku, one of the farmers, rice cultivated in marsh, produces after 3 months, twice more than the one grown in dry land (upland rice).

In addition, the irrigation system makes it possible for farmers to rear fish at the same time.

The abundance of local rice on the market prevents the jump in prices. Hullers were set up in the markets to improve product quality and increase revenue for sellers.

Vif Basengezi appeal to the Minister in the preparation of the growing season in Kasai Oriental A for the Agricultural Fair of Mbuji-Mayi in December
Kinshasa, 05/08/2009 / Politique
Messenger Raïs Kabange Joseph Kabila, the Minister for Agriculture N. Basengezi conducted a tour of 3 days in Kasai Oriental to organize the growing season A for the Agricultural Fair to be held in Mbuji-Mayi in the month of December.

Enthusiasm of the people of Kasai Oriental to the Minister of Agriculture Norbert Basengezi arrived in this province as one of the leading missi dominici J. Kabila. In Mbuji-Mayi as Mwene-Ditu, Ngandajika, Tshilenge and Luilu, the crowds are huge ovation that the envoy came bring the message of President Joseph Kabila Kabange, message calling urges' s invest with as much passion and fervor in the work fields, and livestock farming to ensure food self-sufficiency and end the import of food products.

Accompanied on this journey in Kasai Oriental, 25 to 30 July 2009 by the governor of the province Kasandji Ngoy, head of the National Agriculture put this tour on the rich lands Kasai campaign to popularize the agricultural cultivation "A" preparedness and awareness at the same time farmers, ranchers and farmers of this province on the organization, in December of an Agricultural Fair in Mbuji-Mayi.

This important event location, the first of its kind to be held in this province since its existence, will be a major provincial event. It will allow the province to introduce this what her daughters and her daughters were able to leave the land to meet the needs of people in this province which has hitherto attached importance to mining activities.

It was, in this context, to express the interest that the Head of State attaches to the promotion of agriculture in Kasai Oriental and support the central government brings to this vital sector of national economy that the Minister N. Basengezi commended administrators for Kasandji Ngoy understood and started to implement the government's agricultural policy. The falling price of agricultural commodities that can be seen currently on the market in this province is also the result of the enthusiasm with which these people clearing the land.

This enthusiasm and reduces slightly the impact of the crisis created by the closure of the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer du Congo (sncv). Also, to encourage the governor of the province and the people of Kasai Oriental to engage in the work of agriculture, the minister Norbert Basengezi made several donations of agricultural equipment in the various areas he visited.

A Ngandajika traditional granary agricultural excellence of Kasai Oriental, he delivered a cassava mill in 1000 and hoes. Population Luilu, who waited until late at night arrival of the messenger of Raïs J. KK, has received a gift of 12 cows for the establishment of a pilot farm. "This demonstrates the interest that the president testifies against you," they simply said the minister of agriculture by presenting the Presidential gift which has been welcomed with great joy and strength expressions of thanks.

Mwene Ditu-A is a particularly welcome statement which has been reserved for the delegation of Minister Basengezi. Having urged the inhabitants of that territory to focus on farm work as everywhere he went, the No. 1 National Agriculture gave 3 manioc mills, a press for the manufacture of juice and a motorcycle to facilitate displacement of the Inspector Urban Agriculture.

When the legend of the diamond turns back to the earth!

It should be noted, despite the fact that the National Institute of Agronomic Research (Iner) depends more on the Ministry of Scientific Research that of Agriculture, Norbert Basengezi nevertheless visited the 'Iner-Ngandajika which he bought in 4000 releases of 10,000 bananas and cassava cuttings. These acquisitions have been submitted to the Governor Kasandji Ngoy who in turn distribute to farmers in the town of Mbuji-Mayi and the surrounding area, to enhance agricultural practice in the administrative environment, with a view to give a larger perspective at the agricultural fair as the first city in Kasai Oriental will hold at the end of this year.

Certainly the tour just to make the agriculture minister Norbert Basengezi diamond in the province will date in the future of this province in terms of agriculture. While retaining its undisputed reputation of being the stronghold of the national exploitation of diamonds, Kasai Oriental starts to make a grand entrance in the conquest of self-sufficiency by the return of her son and her daughters to the land Foodland, which produces agricultural, fish and others. Encouragement in this sense of Raïs JKK that the No. 1 went Agriculture will provide significant contributions.
