Erode ring road project begins:

After years of wait Erode ring road has finally arrived, if one goes by what the Highways Department sources say.

The Department has completed the preliminary job of identifying the land to be acquired for the first phase of the project, which will connect Kokkarayanpettai in Namakkal district with Thindal in the district.

The road that will measure 14.1 km in length and will have a seven-metre width will pass through 12 villages, including Vendipalayam, Nanjai Uttukuli, Nanjai Lakkapuram, Punjai Lakkapuram and Vadamugam Vellode.

The land the Highways Department has identified measures around 75 acres, of which it has finalised measurements for 50 acres.

The task of demarcating the remaining land will be over in the weeks to come. Once the demarcation of the entire land required is over, the Department will submit a Land Plan Schedule to the Revenue Department, which will acquire and handover the land to the Highways Department.

For the land identification and acquisition process the Government has sanctioned Rs. 22 crore, say the Department sources.

The second phase of the project will connect Thindal with B.P. Agraharam on Bhavani Main Road. It will measure 9.5 km. The sources say the Department, though plans to lay road with only seven-metre width, is actually acquiring 30 metres keeping in mind expansion in future.

The ring road, as and when it becomes a reality, is expected to divert 2,200 buses and lorries from Erode city roads. The State Government had approved of the project during the 2006-07 Financial Year.

ஈரோடு: ஈரோட்டில் நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவு சில இடங்களில் பெய்த மழையால் மக்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர். தமிழகம் முழுவதும் கோடை கால வெப்பம் கடுமையாக நிலவி வருகிறது. பருவ மழை தவறியதால், கோடை மழையாவது சரியான நேரத்தில் பெய்யும் என பொதுமக்கள் எதிர்பார்த்தனர்.

நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவு 10 மணிக்கு மேல் மேகங்கள் திரண்டு மழை பெய்ய ஆரம்பித்தது. குறிப்பாக சிவகிரியில் மழை வெளுத்து கட்டியது. 105 மி.மீ., இப்பகுதியில் பெய்ததால் விவசாயிகள் மட்டுமின்றி பொதுமக்களும் கோடையின் தாக்கம் குறைந்ததை எண்ணி மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர்.

Erode Outer Ring road :

In order to mitigate the traffic congestion and thereby to ease and have trouble free traffic in Erode Town, the Government have accorded sanction for Rs.22.00 Crores as first phase towards land acquisition for formation of road from Kokkarayanpettai to Thindal to a length of 14.20 km and Rs.35.00 Lakhs for the preparation of Detailed Project Report through Consultants. Now, it is proposed to form the road from Kokkarayanpettai to Karur junction for a length of 2.20 km for Rs.4.00 Crores and High level Bridge across Cauvery river for Rs.10.00 Crores.

Govt need to resolve Infrstructure disparity within TN says V Neethi Mohan, President of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TNCCI)

All the infrastructure development work is heavily concentrated within a radius 100 kilometers around Chennai besides the traditional hub of Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore doing well. But industry and region south of Madurai till Kanyakumari have been neglected.

It is not infrstructure development but industrial and economic development around CBE,Tirupur and Erode.

No doubt per capita income & expenditure in the western TN is higher other than Chennai.

We find many branded show rooms like Chennai silks, Kumaran silks, Alukkas,Malabar gold etc are there in Erode,Tirupur etc whereas bigger towns in population like Vellore,Cuddalore etc do not have. These towns were district HQs much earlier than Erode and Tirupur

ERODE: Coconut shell powdering units are mushrooming in the district, thanks to a good market and Government support.
In the recent past three units have come up with Government support by way of subsidy. District Industries Centre (DIC) General Manager R. Ekambaram says Government has granted subsidy to three units, all of which have received the subsidy under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Policy.

The first industry received 15 per cent of Rs. 25 lakh, the cost of machinery, as subsidy under the micro industries scheme. The second, run by a woman, received 15 per cent of Rs. 50 lakh, the cost of machinery, as subsidy and an additional five percent towards promoting women entrepreneurship.
The third industry too has become eligible for such a subsidy and has been granted one but the cheque is yet to be disbursed.

Mr. Ekambaram says all three units availed of the Government grant for expansion that is all have set up second units.

The units buy coconut shells, available in plenty in the district, powder and send them to units that manufacture brake shoe, clutch plate, plywood, moulding workshops, and industries that manufacture mosquito coil.
R. Selvaraj of Agavi Agro Products, Kangayam, says his unit has the capacity to powder 250 kg of shells an hour. He gets 90 per cent of the quantity of shells as powder. The rest is waste.

The powder is then sent to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Chennai and a few other districts in the State.

He says there is a market for coconut shell powder but it has become competitive given the increase in the number of units.

The units buy coconut shells around Rs. 4,000 a kg, which varies depending on the availability. At present it is costly because farmers are not harvesting coconut as it is not profitable to do so.

The powder is sold between Rs. 7.25 and Rs. 7.50 a kg, depending on the quality. DIC GM Mr. Ekambaram says more entrepreneurs have evinced interest in setting up coconut shell manufacturing units and that his office is scrutinising the applications.

ஈரோடு: "ஈரோடு ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனை மேம்படுத்த ஐந்து கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான திட்டம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. திருச்சி, செங்கல்பட்டு ஆகிய இடங்களில் விரைவில் கேன்டீன் திறக்கப்படும்,' என மத்திய ரயில்வே இணையமைச்சர் அகமது கூறினார். ரயில்வே சுற்றுலா வளர்ச்சி வாரியம் சார்பில் ஈரோடு ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன் முதல் பிளாட்ஃபாரத்தில் தனியார் மூலம் நவீன கேன்டீன் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.


கேன்டீனை திறந்து வைத்த அமைச்சர் கூறியதாவது: ஈரோடு ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன் 5.5 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பீட்டில் மேம்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. 55 லட்சம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பீட்டிலான பணிகள் தற்போது நடக்கிறது. ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனை மேலும் மேம்படுத்த ஐந்து கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான திட்டம் உருவாக்கப்படுகிறது. ரயில்வே சுற்றுலா வளர்ச்சி வாரியம் சார்பில் 17 இடங்களில் கேண்டீன் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அவற்றில் ஐந்து கேன்டீன் தென்னக ரயில்வேயில் உள்ளது. ஈரோட்டில் திறக்கப்படும் கேன்டீன் ஐந்தாவது. திருச்சி, செங்கல்பட்டு ஆகிய இடங்களில் விரைவில் கேன்டீன் திறக்கப்பட உள்ளது. கேன்டீன்களில் தரமான உணவு 30 ரூபாய்க்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இது தவிர டீ மற்றும் இதர உணவு வகைகள் வழங்கப்படும். கேன்டீன் சமையல் அறைகளை தூய்மையாக பராமரிக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம். கேன்டீன் அமைக்க விண்ணப்பித்தால், பரிசீலனை செய்து உரிமம் வழங்கப்படும். ஈரோடு - பழனி ரயில்வே பாதை அமைப்பதற்கான சர்வே பணிநடக்கிறது. இது முழுமை பெறவில்லை. புதிய ரயில்வே திட்டம் அமைய வேண்டும் என்றால் அந்த மாநிலத்தின் ஒத்துழைப்பை பொறுத்தே அமையும். ரயில்வே பாதை அமைப்பதற்கான நிலம் கையப்படுத்துதல் போன்றவற்றுக்கு மாநில ரசின் ஒத்துழைப்பு அவசியம். இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

Erode-Palani railway line project survey as scheduled: Minister

ERODE: Survey to execute the Erode-Palani railway line project is on, Union Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed told reporters here on Friday.
After inaugurating the Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corporations Cell Kitchen, he said the Railways would soon complete the survey and thereafter the success of the project lay with the State Government, which must assist in land acquisition.

He promised to look into the demand to introduce electric train service between Coimbatore and Salem, a long-time demand of the trading and working communities in the area.

Mr. Ahamed then said that the Southern Railways Salem Division had taken up development works at Erode Railway Station for Rs. 55 lakh, which were at various stages of implementation. Works worth Rs. 5 crore were on the anvil.

He promised to look into the demand to shift the passenger information centre from the first platform to the ground floor, to facilitate all sections of people access information.

Regarding the Cell Kitchen he said it was the fifth in Tamil Nadu and 17th in the Southern Railway. He said Tamil Nadu would get more of those one in Tiruchi and another in Chengalpet.

The Erode eatery been set up at Rs. 45 lakh would serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian refreshments. It would have a dining facility.
The IRCTC would conduct periodic inspections to ensure that the travelling public got food at good quality, he added.

Good to see erode's growth.

But Engineering SEZ at perundurai can be considered as a off shoot of coimbatore's development and these industries are setting up units there due to lack of huge vacant lands for industrial use in cbe. Even the modern agricultural terminal (coimbatore) is also coming up in perundurai Sipcot.

In coming years we can see an industrial corridor running thru erode and possibly the high pace of activity can be found between erode n cbe.

It would be nice if it happens like this; sriperumbudur:chennai and perundurai:cbe. But still erode would reap benefits out of it.
