Forum Management | Foruma Organizācija

Ok, so we have our own corner now. What improvements do we need in our sub-forum?

Here are my ideas:

1.) Make this thread as a sticky, so that we could discuss in this thread changes we want to be make in our Latvian sub-forum.

2.) Create a highrise section.

3.) Create a Transport & infrastructure section.

4.) Make "Riga/Jelgava City development" and "RIGA UNDER CONSTRUCTION: photo thread of Riga's development" threads as sticky.

What do you think?

Don't think that we need split this forum... Too much clicking to get somewhere. Currently not too much happening in Latvia anyway.
Agree about sticky threads though.

Actually I'm very happy about the new layout. Finally each country's threads are separated and when you're interested to find old threads you don't have to use search function, just go and see all Latvia's, Lithuania's or other country's threads because they are not so many in each section.
And agree that for the moment we don't need to create subsections.
About sticky threads - I see reasonable to make both Riga threads sticky, not sure about Jelgava though. Of course, you, Ripley, are very actively reporting from there, but still, Jelgava is just one of many Latvian towns, and if here comes new forumers from Liepāja, or Ventspils, or Daugavpils (there is one already) and start to actively report about development there - then what, will make all these threads sticky?

Are there any volunteers for becoming The Baltic Mod?

RipleyLV suggested Gatis or Nomels for this job. I agree with SEAfan that Gatis might be to busy for running the job.

The discussion on the Baltic Mod matter is hapenning here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...1#post45347791

Everyone is invited to join the discussion

Leave it as it is, I say. For now. We can change it later, if needed. May be Riga U/C as sticky.

IMO, the best idea of making a sticky forum would go with Riga dev. Nothing more due to it's our capital and city with biggest quantity of planned, proposed, accepted, being u/c projects! Still, don't make Riga U/C a sticky one - it's not so importtant, just pics!

^ Yeah, but Riga U/C thread is the second most viewed and it deserves to be sticky. And I fully support the idea of creating a highrise section, so that things could be tidy, always "RIGA |..." stucks in my eyes. Then we would have all threads in one page in the general development and it would one less clicking to get to older threads.

Edit: Should this thread be a sticky one?

We didnt make a highrise section in the Norway section, so to organize it we made a sticky thread on top with links and stuff (can be an example)

I support that idea I always check the European subforums for developments in the infrastructure branch, but it's easier to find them in one thread than under "general projects/developments/etc".

You might have noticed that Norway finally got its Oslo section, and Sweden its Stockholm section. I got a pm about a Riga section, or a Highrise section and i want to start a discussion following our chat.

The fact is, Latvia needs more activity. Some forumers might join if you have a Riga section right now, but not many, so this is not a solution. We basically need Latvia to become more active, more members, more active members. But how to attract users?

1. A visitor who see to Latvia for the first time will have to find an interesting thread. The first thing he will do is to check out the first post, nomatter how old the thread is. Its therefore very important that the first post of any thread is updated, looks good ("design") and is informative. Then he can start looking down on the discussion part of the thread.

2. Obviously, to have a section active you need something to discuss, and here we need interesting projects and highrises. Sometimes, as has been a little problem following the financial crisis a country lack projects. But this isn't anything we can control sadly!

3. Language. Language has been discussed in Sweden and Norway, and Sweden is partly turning Swedish and has experienced a growth in local members. I actually believe Latvia going Latvian might be a key solution, since i know much fewer Latvians write English as they do in Scandinavian countries. Going Latvian you will lose many foreign visitors, but again most likely gain more Latvian visitors. Gaining more Latvian forumers is more important than unproductive foreign forumers and visitors anyway. Still, i would like to keep one thread English, like this QUICK LINKS | LATVIA thread. But update it with more projects, make a summary of Latvian projects (and it have to be updated).

I can also mention Lithuania, who was once the most active country in N&B, but due to language they made their own forum and left SSC. Lithuania is the least active country-section of the three Baltic countries, based on these statistics.

But since i am not Latvian i might be totally off, thats why i want a discussion on this! Lets hope for a Riga section one day!

Yep, section in Latvian language certainly might help! SSC is ranked high on Google search and text in Latvian might attract people.

We in Latvia currently have got a "small" problem: due to crisis very little is built, thus not much to discuss. Latvia is not coming out of crisis yet, it will take some years until large-scale projects will appear.

Local economy and politics is discussed a lot on Latvian language portals (www.ir.lv, www.politika.lv etc.), here on SSC this could better stay in English - that's unique to see discussions about Latvia in English
