Sudheesh Nair's Munnar & Peerumed Trip photos

Last friday I had an yet another unexpected travel. It was time to hit the hill roads once again. The idea came up by 12 noon and we were off by 3.45 PM for another trip to Munnar, but on a different route.

"Neela Kurinji' is in bloom in the western ghats, which happens only in 12 years and it is spotted in Eravikulam National Park. Our primary aim was to see that.

Another fellow forumer 'Sputnikd' had told me in 'Kerala Tourism-Gods' own country' thread to try out a new route, through the 'Spice country' of Ponkunnam-Kuttikanam-kattapana-udumban chola-devikulam-munnar.

So I am out in the road, with three of my friends, to have another interesting trip.

This time we start from Trivandrum by 3.45 pm, had to go via Pathanamthitta. From Pathanamthitta, we went via Ranni, Manimala and entered the Kollam-Kottayam-Theni NH 220. It was some 10 PM when we reached the town of Ponkunnam, had food from there and proceeded further to 'Kuttikanam' via Kanjirapally and Mundakayam. We reached Kuttikanam at about 1 PM, and got retired to our accomodation at Govt Guest house.

Since the first leg of the trip was mostly in the night, there was no chance of taking snaps. We will start from our photo journey from Kuttikanam.

Kuttikanam

Our stay was in this old rustic building which is some 120 years old, in the middle of the woods.

Now time to move on, we hit the driveway from the guest house

NH 220 to Theni in Tamilnadu.

This is towards Kottayam. We had turned to right, towards the Theni side and then came back knowing it is the wrong way.

Kuttikanam town is some 3 km away, where we have to deviate from NH 220 and go towards Munnar

NH 220 is a well maintained road even though it is through the hills and faces incessant rains.

The road becomes narrow when we deviate from NH 220, towards Kattapana.

There are waterfalls everywhere

After Kuttikanam/Peerumed, there is a drop in altitude, to the towns of Kattapana and Nedumkandam. You can see that the vegetation changes from tea & eucalyptus/pine trees to tropical evergreen trees. Here cardamom, ginger and other spices are grown.

The road from Nedumkandam to Devikulam is getting a makeover. The mechanised paving technology (WBM&AC) is now used which makes the drive smoother.

Here one lane of the road is paved by the mechanical paver.

Seems this is part of the Anayirinkil dam.

The time is only 4 pm, but very poor light conditions.

what happened boss? it is perfectly o.k for me. The images are hosted at imageshack just like my other postings. Others like ferrari, indiansunite and kallu_be has seen the photos, so I feel it would be o.k.

Most pictures are also less than 100 kb in size, so will not be any issue of difficulty in opening due to large size. Anyway please recheck, o.k?

I tried both IE and firefox.
I can see the slakhs and FerrariFan's photos. Even your BLore thread, I could see photos on the first page, but not on the last page.
Even in this thread http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=362576&page=3
I cannot see photos in message no #43-#51 and #57, but can see all others including #56 too.
Let others opine too.

So we move on...

Resorts at Chinnakanal are seen at the distance on the hills. Club Mahindra, Sterling Resorts, Fort Munnar etc are there.

I had my honeymoon at Sterling in 2003. Just thought of going back to those good old times..

Now we will come back to the present tense, time to enjoy munnar, here we find a place to have a little booze.

Sudheesh - Awesome pix of Munnar and that part of the western ghats. The ethereal beauty of Munnar can easily challenge the Alps in Europe.

BTW - did the purpose of your visit get met? Did you see the hills 'bathed in blue' ?

Aha atlast figured it out, it was my ZoneAlarm Security blocking most of the pics. (Not sure why)

Dreamy pictures and what greenery dude. Loved that dam photos with hilly backdrop. Must visit place. Much greener than Ooty.
Which hotel would you suggest to stay and any good restaurants you could recommend?
For people visiting from Chennai/BLore by train/plane which would be the closest city from where probably we could hire a taxi.
