68th Annual National Folk Festival, Downtown Richmond Riverfront! Pics!

I had the pleasure of attending the National Folk Festival this past weekend back home in Richmond and it was an awesome event. I wish I could have been there more than just Saturday. Anyways, here's some pics and a video (albeit not the best quality) from the day. Enjoy!

"The National Folk Festival is the oldest traditional arts festival in the country, celebrating the roots, richness and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional craft, storytelling and food. This "moveable feast of deeply traditional folk arts” regularly attracts more than 100,000 people each year."

The festival covered a huge swatch of land along the riverfront, and including more than 7 music venues

Video:

First, some from walking down from Main St to the riverfront

Now, the Festival!

Heading back to the car...

There we go! Hope you've enjoyed. The Festival will be in Richmond next October as well before moving on, so I highly recommend making a trip up, down, or over for it!

While I'm not sure what thing you're referring to exactly, I'll try to do my best . This portion of the festival is in the National Richmond Civil War Visitors Center at Historic Tredegar Iron Works. There is also a new private museum on site called the American Civil War Center. Tredegar was a major foundry for munitions and armaments during the Civil War, and was in use in some form until the 1950's/60's. It's not converted into a really cool Civil War Center as mentioned above. I assume the piece of machinery in the foreground had something to do with its industrious past. The tents, canal boats, and displays were part of the "10,000 Villages Marketplace." Just beyond the trees is the James River. Hope that helps

Thanks for the show. I was there Friday night and Sunday. Had a great time. AltaiKAI was amazing (throat singing). The beer selection was good too.

You're welcome...I never got to see AltaiKAI! Damn. Maybe they'll have throat singers next year.

I didn't grab a beer at the festival, so I don't know what they had, but it would be neat if they had mircobrews from all kinds of places around the country. I look at the festival as a way to sample America's diversity, and that can include beer! haha. A few beer festivals this past summer had nice selections.
